I Need Help Ladies! Old Printers(Long)
Decorating By kellylowe Updated 28 Aug 2007 , 12:07pm by thecakemaker
OK, I think technology has passed up the edible ink cartridges listed for sale. I have been having the worst problem finding a printer that is compatible with them. I have called every office depot, and even the canon direct online store.....but the printers that are compatible with the cartridges are no longer being produced. I am in the process of opening a cake shope and I wanted to buy a printer to be able to use it in my business!!!! I can't find one though. If anyone has bought a printer recently can you please tell me which one, and where you got it? I called kopykake directly , and the gal I spoke with was so rude I guess she couldn't figure out what I wanted. My fault maybe. I know y'all know what I'm looking for so if you offer any advice I would appreciate it!
Thanks !
Kelly
Where did you get your cartridges from? The couple places I deal with sell both the printer and the cartridge. Maybe they sold you obsolete cartridges and need to refund your money. . .

I have the canon i550 but I don't think that it is available anymore either. I honestly don't know what is available anymore but I will ask my supply store that sells the edible ink and see if they have a product list of what is available
Sorry - I missed the KopyKake part. Did you purchase the cartridges from them?
Debbie
I have a Cannon i860. It works reasonally well.
It's been my experience tha the printer manufacturers, although aware of what we're doing, dont' want any involvement.
But otherwise, pretty much any Cannon or Epson will work, at least that's been my experience.
Maybe I'm not understanding the question. You're trying to buy a whole system, right? Printer + cartridges.
If so, then you can check this link http://www.photofrost.com/supplies.htm
for what cartridge sets go with which printers. Just click on the links for printer models. There are tons of printers, it looks like, that are comparable with the ink cartridges.
I think I understand what you mean because I just went through it a couple of weeks ago and yes, it is very hard to find a printer in the stores that work with the cartridges.
There are a couple of newer canon printers that you can buy now, but Canon changed their technology on their cartridges and you have to take the chips off the old ink cartridges and put them on your edible cartridges..ugh, I didn't want to deal with that.
You can find the older ones on Ebay, although sometimes the prices can be outrageous, especially on Canons since they changed the cartridges.
I decided I wanted the printer like Kopykake sells in their complete systems. Those printers were selling for upwards of $100 on Ebay, but I found mine at OfficeMax online for $49, free shipping!
Here's the one I got that is currently selling on Ebay. A $79 buyitnow isn't a bad price, they were going higher than that when I was looking.

Thank you all so much. Debbie, I would love to know where you can buy the printer and the cartridges together. If you don't mind can you tell me how to contact them. I have a total list of compatible printers and cartridges, but it is still hard to find one. justme50 could you give me the product information or model number for your printer so I could check it out online? Thanks again ladies!
I searched for days on the internet trying to find out what model the printer was that kopykake and some others use in their systems. Nowhere do any of the companies tell you what exact model it is.
I love it so far...no problems whatsoever except for the fact that I forgot to take the tab off of the blue! I worked for hours trying to figure out why everything was coming out pink.
Be sure and price everything out separately rather than buying a system. I saved hundreds of dollars by buying everything individually. If you have a Sams nearby, you can buy the same exact icing sheets you get at Kopykake there. They are about $2 cheaper, but you save the shipping.
I like Kopykake, but their shipping is really high for me.
Kopykake and IcingImages both sell printers and cartridges. They both also list the printer model numbers right on their site. I know i've seen the IP series Cannon printers at Staples that both sites carry. I love my Cannon. I liked it so much that when my all in one went up at home I replaced it with the Cannon all in one!
