Hello again everyone,

OK, I have just started my Wilton course one. My best friend of 22 years has her 36th birthday tommorrow. She asked me to make a cake for her. So I tried alot of firsts for me icon_eek.gificon_cry.gif . First stacked cake, first square cake, first time smoothing the icing, first time squaring off the edges, first time using fondant, and first time with a filling. Please let me know what I have done wrong. I know that I need alot of improvement that is why I am asking : . So any advise would be helpful. Thanks in Advance.

This is BC icing with fondant decorations, and a special poem I wrote for her.

Ann

edited to say that it is yellow cake with chocolate filling

wow that is a LOT of firsts! I think it looks good....and I cannot believe you attempted a stacked cake while in course I! I just finished course III and still have to work on stacking cakes (mine dont always look level)....

anyway i think you did great....just keep practicing...and I know your friend is gonna love this cake!

I don't have a very clear picture of the cake but from what I can see it looks great as a first cake. Are those feathers around the cake and how will you stop the feathers from getting onto the buttercream? It looks like you did a good job with smoothing. The poem on the top looks loke it may be a little crooked but I'm sure your friend will absolutely love it. Good job!!!

Thanks you guys. You know, I didn't even think about the feathers getting into the icing. I have seen some pictures on here and thought that it would be alright. I guess I should've asked for. I was just sooo tired by the time I finished this cake. It took me all day to make it. For future reference how do I keep them out of the icing? TIA
