Just wondering if after you've iced your cookies with Royal Icing, do you leave them out overnight to dry covered or not covered? I want to be sure they are completely dry, but don't want them getting stale overnight if they are just laid out on the counter. Thanks so much everyone!

I leave them out (uncovered) overnight to dry and put in airtight containers the next day. I've tried to place plactic wrap over semi-dried cookies and it ends up sticking, not drying properly and leaving wrinkly marks on my icing thumbsdown.gif

I just leave mine out on the table sitting on the cooling racks where I decorate them. Never had a problem with them going stale.

I did some yesterday, and just left them on the cooling rack overnight, and they still taste great! I am bagging them up now!

they'll be fine uncovered.......I always stick mine on cookie sheets and kinda criss cross the cookie sheets on top of eachother and stick em on top of the fridge! I've never had them not taste fresh......I've even left some for a couple days like that and they're fine

I leave mine uncovered on the dining room table. The only problem I have is my children walking past and helping themselves to the cookies!!!!

I can leave them out for days and they still stay "fresh". I think the icing seals in the moisture or at least adds to the moisture in the cookies.

Leave them out uncovered. If you cover them well, they won't dry!

You can leave them out for days uncovered. The beauty of decorated cookies is that they are usually a crispier, sturdier cookie (i.e. not soft, chewy). Leaving them out for a few days in a dry, unhumid environment is not a problem.

I don't go beyond 2 days usually, before they should be either eaten or packaged! thumbs_up.gif The first thing you will notice about "old" cookies is that the butter starts to go rancid smelling. Ick! That happens about 5-7 days after baking them and leaving them in a warm kitchen uncovered or not.
