can you make tiered cakes with out having the top ones sitting on cake boards ?? i have a 9 in and a 8 in in the oven now, and im going to use a 6in also . wanted to know if you can just stack them without cake boards or rounds ?? i have straws for support ...

The boards are what gives the cake stability, when using straws. Straws alone won't keep it from sagging into the next cake. Jen

I've done it with two small tiers before but I wouldn't chance it with 3, even with small tiers. If you're afraid the board will stick to the cake underneath, put a circle of waxed paper between the cake and the board. It also helps to sprinkle powdered sugar between.
