well, after reading that...i don't think posting it that way on her website was a smart thing to do. my first impression was...yeah, i understand you don't want to be undercharged or taken advantage of, but man are you still holding a grudge? you can have a backbone without being rude. that was very unprofessional. she does have talent, but so do a lot of other cake decorators...and many of them, i'm sure have been burned too...we all have at one time or another. if i was a bride to be, i wouldn't hire her to do a cake for me. like that old saying goes "you never get a second chance to make a good first impression"...well, after reading that, she blew it.

I think it depends on your personality. In our house, we find humor in everything, so when I read her website, I luv'd it because I could see the humor in it ("you're in Iowa....duh!")

I have a speech I give to brides that starts out with "You may think this day is all about you but it's not." With my personality, I can pull off a speech like this....the bride and the moms are always laughing with me when I finish the speech, with a southern bell smile on my face and my best Paula Deen accent. But some, who don't have my personality, would pi$$ people off with the very same, word-for-word speech.

I can't tell you how many brides said they called me because they liked my "blunt and direct approach". Remember, brides are getting BS'd thru their entire planning process .... finding someone who "tells it like it is" without the BS is refreshing to them.

It works for me .... it works for this person ..... and I stand by my previous post that I probably don't want to work with a bride who wouldn't see the humor and would get all P.O'd over it anyway. "Divas need not apply." My calendar is full so whatever I'm doing is working just fine.

Life's too short, people. Get over it.

indydebi...I think that it does end up being who you are and who the bride is...I think I would have been intimidated if I were a bride reading that. But then I am easily intimidated by upfront people....intimidated or offended. It took about 5 years to get used to my MIL and DH policy of just saying what they think...apparently they have no filter between brain and mouth.. icon_lol.gif

And you are soooo totally right about it being certain people who can pull off saying things and others who can't...my dh can get blood froma stone but some how I end up looking like the Pia if I ask for the same thing icon_confused.gif ....must be different charisma factors...

Have a super day...Julia

This is just my opinion, I love her straight forward attitude but it can be daunting to some customers.
In the northern cities I can see someone totally getting this and not blinking an eye, but a more southern customer might mistake it for stubbornness and even kinda threatening and move on quickly.
I too agree her work is awesome but that wouldn't go over well around where I live.
So I guess it'll just have to go into my contract then hu? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

i was born and raised in mass. and now that i have had the opportunity to travel and live in many different states and countries, i can now see that i once had that type of attitude. my good friend is from alabama and she always use to tease me about my "attitude" and how mean every one is from the north. i always disagreed with her, but now i am starting to see that maybe there is some truth to what she was saying. i've lived in florida for 8 years and i couldn't believe how nice everyone was. i guess it depends on where you're from, but that still doesn't make it right. treat people the way you want to be treated.
