Covering Cake Boards With Contact Paper
Decorating By beemarie Updated 25 Aug 2007 , 12:33am by justme50
If I cover my cake boards with contact paper (I am making a stacked wedding cake) will the contact paper be enough to prevent the frosting from sticking to the cardboard when the cake is disassembled, or should I also put some powdered sugar or waxed paper between layers? I use IMBC, so there will be no crusting.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks, JoAnn. I was wondering about the slippage. I plan on stacking the cake at the wedding site. Do you think that will be okay and I won't have to worry about any slipping? I am not going to put one long dowel through the whole cake.
Contact paper is what you line your kitchen drawers with, and you can find it in the kitchen aisle of stores like WalMart.
NVP, Contact Paper is not really paper. It is thin self-adhesive plastic on a 12" or 18" roll. It comes in lots of colors and patterns, and even in "clear". It has a paper backing with measurement markings. You can cut it to fit, and then peel off the paper backing. Most of it now is "repositionable" so if you stick it in wrong place, you can peel it away and restick it. Yes, it is safe to cover cakeboards.
I wish I could remember who posted this tip, but someone suggested putting a piece of fondant just the size of the cake board on the cake before stacking.
It works great! No sticking at all and the fondant can just peel off before cutting into the cake.
