Is it best to make flowers out of 1/2 fondant and 1/2 gumpaste, or is it better to make them with just straight gumpaste? What would be the difference? What are the advantages? I cant decide what to do, please help!! icon_confused.gif

It depends on the kind of flower. For the thinnest most delicate petals, gumpaste alone with give you the best results.

Mixed GP and fondant doesn't dry as fast, and is great for drapes and figures.

for flowers I would use straight gumpaste... but make sure you keep your pieces covered as you work so they don't dry out too fast..

this is my preference..

i usually use 50/50 mix when I need something to be a little more flexible but need it to dry a little faster then fondant.

hope this helps..

Also flowers you do ALOT of work to them you want to slowly dry verses just straight GP I would mix it half and half.

Figures you work on for a while twisting shaping etc... just fondant

Like Joann said the delicate petals that you want GP but work super quick!

Well I usually only use gunpaste but recently tried to use fondant for a project becuase I was lazy and I already had the colors I needed in fondant and not in Gumpaste.. and what a mistake that was the cake is due tomorrow and here we are 6 days later and I am still waiting for the pieces to dry I mean they are like as soft as the day I made them what a mess Im in...
