I call that the "ugly stage" of the cake - you are most definitely not alone! Give your cake some TLC, and it'll all work out!

Misery loves company! I always feel that way. I guess a plain fondant covered cake just isn't that pretty. Well, some are but I always think it's going to be awful. Just putting a border at the bottom makes me feel better and then as I decorate, I am pleasantly surprised. I don't know who ever thought of it but fondant is a wonderful thing. I always remember what my instructor told me too. Decorations hide mistakes! Works just about every time!
That's so funny! I can't count how many times I've thrown up my hands some time during my cake and said I'll never do another cake again, or I hate doing this, or I hope no one else wants a cake soon.... and then a few days later I'm itching to do another. I hate seeing chefs with terrible tempers yelling obscenities on shows - very bad behavior, but I have to say I understand what they are feeling
.
Well I finished the cake last night and made it through. It's alot like giving birth I have decided. There's the pain and anticipation but in the end comes the joy of the completed work. Whew! I am so glad to know I am not weird in this and others also know how I feel. My husband says that athletes also go through this. I guess anything that you are passionate about and wanting to become better at has this cycle in it.
