I have some luster dust that I would like to begin working with. I have an 18th birthday cake coming up in a couple of weeks for my cousin and thought that this would be the perfect oppurtunity to use it.
Question is: What can I mix with the luster dust so that I can paint it onto the fondant other than vodka since she will only be 18 and no one in my family has liquor that I could use to do this and I don't want to have to buy any just for this purpose.
Do I have to paint it on or could I just dry brush the luster dust on before the fondant has a chance to harden?
Will this work on MMF since it is the only fondant I use and know how to make?
Thank you in advance for all of your assistance,

You can use lemon extract. You can also buy a little bottle of vodka at the liquor store for under 5 dollars. I recommend Bacardi Limon (which is rum, not vodka, but same diff). Absolut Mandarin is also great to use (which is vodka).
The vodka evaporates (which is exactly the point of using it!), so using it would be just fine on a cake for an 18 year old, or any cake, for that matter.
Yes, painting luster dust on MMF works.
Thank you cakepro. I am not too familiar with alcohol so I wasn't sure if the alcohol in it would evaporate off or not. I know when you cook it it will but I wasn't sure what would happen using it this way. I may try both the extract and vodka to see what happens. Thank you for responding. The party is 9-13 and I would like to start experimenting with the luster dust and ribbon roses for the first time this coming weekend.
