Either make 2 colors and then try to seam them well or what I would do is paint them. I just use Wilton color gel and add some vodka to it and paint away icon_smile.gif
Just wanted to add that with the red unless you are buying red fondant I would definitely paint it. Dying fonant is hard it almost always stays pink. Good luck!

I think you're right LeeAnn. I use the ordinary paste colours available from any uk cake decorating shop and I have to use very little to get a good red or black colour.

I have no idea what the football tin looks like, but don't footballs have seams? (American footballs certainly do, and soccer balls do too. don't they?) Why not use the seam area to join the 2 colors? Add stitching?
Otherwise, painting might be the best way to go.

The problem is that the stitching is only a small section. But, if you smooth the fondant edges together, it would look like the real thing. I'm trying to attach a picture of an American football that is two color. HTH!

I see what you mean, about the stitching being only a very small area. Your football looks wonderful. You certainly managed to get the two colors together to make the ball look real. That is a nice cake!

OMG!!!! It's not a cake! I didn't mean for anyone to think that it was! It's just a pic of a real football. I'm sorry if I misled you. icon_smile.gif

I have been thinking about this for you, I would cover the whole ball shape in white the roll out a very thin layer of red fondant and cut it to the shape you want the red to be then lay it over the top of the white layer. To hide the slight height difference run along the edge of the red and white with the back of a butter knife to make an indent so it looks like both the white and the red are pushed into the seam.

Can't wait to see how you go with it! I am sure it will look great!
