A good friend of mines bday is coming up and I'm going to do a layer cake with whipping cream and strawberries. How do I get them to stay in between the cake layers? I've only done sheetcakes.

Thanks.

Welcome to cake central. Whipped cream and strawberries is delicious but very fragile. the berries will start weeping fairly soon after they are cut. It would be ok for a few hours, but not for much longer.

This is what I would do:
Level the layer, so you have a nice flat surface.
add whipped cream to the flat surface, but not too thick
pipe a border around the edge of the layer to help hold in the berries
add sliced berries, keeping them inside the border.
add the top layer of cake.
I would decorate with whole berries, dipped in chocolate ganache.

hi,
torte your cake and make a dam with the whipping cream and fill inside the dam with the thinly sliced strawberries(I use strawberry jam)
