So my little sister wanted a dog theme cake. I started making a dog house out of fondant. I didnt think it through very well, though. I cut out pieces of fondant ( one for the front and back, one for the sides and the roof)...it looks like a gingerbread house kit. My problem now, is how do I attatch them together to "build" the house? If it comes right down to it, can I hot glue the fondant pieces together? I'd like it to be edible though.. here's a picture of my pieces...

I would say royal icing, just like a gingerbread house. VERY CUTE!

I made a castle from MMF just like that. I used royal and glued them together.

Oh Sarsi, I'm hoping there is a little bit of gumpaste added to your fondant in your doghouse pieces for strength........

Tiptop57...no, there's not icon_sad.gif I didnt have any Tylose to make any gumpaste, so I thought I'd just try it without. Big boo-boo, huh? OOPS! Well, I did it a few days ago and I've left it sitting out and turning the pieces. They seem pretty sturdy... I used MMF fondant..do you think I should start over and add gumpaste?

Noooooo don't start over, but I would put it together ahead of time in case of breakage! Then be very careful how you pick it up and how often you pick it up! HTH icon_wink.gif

Sarsi, your little house looks great. Please dont start over.
Would you consider putting something inside to help suport it until it's ready to go? Like a small box or tuppeware or something?

For next time.
Also for the gumpaste. I have been purchasing gumpaste powder which gives out about 2 cups of gumpaste for about $4.00 a bag. You might want to look for that, I purchase the one made by CK products out of fort wayne, IN.

I also have been adding flavoring to the gumpaste and to my MMF fondant. I have been using bubblegum flavor and it seems everyone wants to eat it.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Hmmm....what about using cardboard cut just a little bit smaller than your peices and attaching them with royal to your pieces for support before assembling the doghouse? Or building a the doghouse out of cardboard and glueing the peices on? Though I know you said you want it to be edible. I'm just throwing out ideas b/c I don't want your awesome structure to collapse. I haven't tried drying straight fondant so I don't know how sturdy it will be.

Alana, now I get what you two are talking about!! LOL...Sorry, I'm a little slow!! That sounds like it would be a great idea! I'd rather have it hold up than be edible anyway! icon_biggrin.gif Thanks!

You could cover the card board with saran wrap or alumnium foil and glue everything with Royal icing keeping everything edible that way.

Good Luck.

Another good idea!! Thanks again!! I think I will glue it all 2gether on friday morn. Do you think that will be enough time for it to dry...by Saturday night or Sunday morning?

And I guess it really doesnt matter if it is edible or not. It's probably just a pride thing, because I love it when people say, "is everything on here edible" and then they oooo and ahhhh when you say it is! LOL icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for all the nice comments!! I am open to helpful tips as to how I could do this better next time too... icon_biggrin.gif I was pretty proud of myself! icon_biggrin.gif Like most of my cakes, I had a time that I wanted to just cry and give up!! But, my husband said, "you're the only one who ever notices anything wrong with your cakes"...I know it's true, but I like everything to be PERFECT!!

gateaux- I'm trying to make your quote on your signature my moto...icon_biggrin.gif "My teacher says... "Always say your cake is perfect, you are the only one who thinks different!" " I love that!!
