I have to make 100 cupcakes with mini gold tiaras on top of each one. The pageant colors are black, silver and gold. I don't want to make a black icing because these are pageant girls----they can't walk around with black teeth. Maybe black fondant-----I have no clue. I just want to make sure the gold crowns pop. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks---Cyndi icon_lol.gif

Maybe Black or Silver cake glitter? Just a light sprinkle over white?

Maybe just the ivory color with some luster dust and do the cupcakes dipped in fondant. I saw this on this website http://www.cakejournal.com/2007/06/how-to-cover-cupcakes-with-poured.html

Thanks for the link. Those are so pretty. When she says fondant------is it just regular fondant that she melts in the microwave. Like MMF????

I'm making little replicas of these tiaras. It's the pageants website.

editted to add: The coordinator told me that they're gold. If not I wouldn't have known......Lol. You can't really tell from the pics. She also said that the colors for the event are black, silver and gold (I think I said that already....sorry).

If the tiaras are gold... and you still have to incorporate the black and silver, i would combine the previous ideas and dip them in the melted fondant in a greyish color and sprinkle with black cake glitter. Then you can use some little white flowers of any variety to help secure your tiaras and give the cupcakes a more feminine look.... Just a thought. I would love to see pictures of how they turn out!!! icon_smile.gif

Can you get black cupcake papers (maybe use the dark brown ones if you can't) then have white icing, gold tiaras and sprinkle with silver cashous. the black icing even fondant would turn their tongues black!!

you could also use silver foil cupcake papers and then do white icing, gold tiaras and put some mini black stars or hearts on top.

What if you sprinkled black and silver fondant stars around the gold crown? Leave the icing white or off-white. Wilton makes a star-shaped fondant cutter set. It has a nice size tiny star in it. Or one like this:

That way no one gets a black mouth or worse gets black icing on an expensive gown.

I like the idea of the black cupcake liners. Anyone know of a place that carries them?

I've had a lot of requests, recently, for black cupcake liners. There is, apparently, someone in the UK who stocks them (though they always seem to be "out of stock" according to the requests I'm receiving). Other than that, I have not been able to track any down.
The manufacturer I deal with refuses to do black - he says that the dye that is used is toxic when baked and he won't take the responsibility of the liners being used after the cupcakes are cooked.
I think your simplest option is to use the gold or silver foil cases.

These are the only cupcake liners I can find in black, but I'm still looking! icon_smile.gif

I checked into the oven, but it said they're currently sold out.

Hope this helps,

Holly

You're very welcome.

Sadly, I haven't found any others, but into the oven says to check back weekly, so maybe check again another day, I suppose.

Wow........I hadn't been gettin emails from the replies.

Anyhow----I really like the silver liner idea. I didn't realize that the black fondant would also leave the black tooth result. Oh well, I really liked the idea of the gold tiara really popping off the black with maybe silver swirls around the edges.

I think I'll do the ivory idea with the silver liners and maybe some silver and black lightly painted swirl edges. Then of course the gold crowns. I'll have to see how one looks before I can move on with that idea.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think the fondant is some that she thinned down in the microwave. I believe that you can use the dry one too, you can find it in cake deco stores.

I too like the silver paper, white icing, maybe gold, silver or pearl luster dust and black dragees in the tiaras for accents.

I've seen someone wrap their cupcake papers in thick ribbon. Not sure how she did it...but it looked nice... Maybe silver cup liners with ribbon around them?
