I've been asked to do a cake that's ivory or off-white with white swirls. I've seen several ivory cakes here on CC, but I don't know how to make that color! Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

I use mexican vanilla.... it's pretty dark... or you could use madagascar vanilla... would work the same. It tastes really good too!

I have found if you add a little chocolate buttercream, it works great. It doesn't give an artificial color. Just start with a spoonful for mixer bowl full. Trust me. I have done it and it works great. I don't do anything else.

I make the Decorator's Buttercream and it uses butter and shortening and it's not a pure white..kind of an ivory. I just made my sister's wedding cake and covered it with Ivory Pettinice and did my borders and such with my regular buttercream and they look exactly the same.
Here's the link to my cake, if you want to see the coloring.
