Hi,
I have no idea of what I just did, why I did it and if it will turn out alright. I'm hoping someone can help.
I followed the WASC recipe. To it, I added the cake mix extender which says to add 1 egg, 1 cup flour, 8oz. sour cream, 1 cup sugar, 1/3 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. vanilla or other flavoring per each mix, so I doubled everything I just listed because the WASC is 2 boxes of cake mix.
Here's where I have no idea of how or why I did this. I was adding ingredients and noticed how full the bowl looked and knew something was very wrong but I just kept mixing and that batter was overflowing the sides. I went to throw something in the garbage and saw that I used 3 cakes mixes, not two. Now I'm very concerned that the cake is going to be extremely dry because I didn't add more liquid and/or sour cream. However, the batter did not seem too thick. I did add 8 whole eggs to the whole concoction. I don't use just the whites in the WASC and it comes out just fine. Do any of you skilled bakers have any idea of how this mess will turn out?
It's me again. It just went from bad to worse. I was cleaning the counter off and went to throw the 2 boxes of cake mix in the trash and one was not used. So that means I only used 2 boxes like I should have but added an additional 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1 egg and 8 oz. of sour cream. Does anyone know how this will turn out?
Sounds like a "wait and see" ordeal. Who knows? Maybe it will turn out fabulous and you'll want to try it again. Good luck and I hope it does okay.
Diane
how about just "good luck to ya"?
No, seriously, I'd wait and see before I paniced, you might find you're on to something....
When you take it out and level it, just try some of the scraps, don't just dig into the cake assuming it will be terrible. The extra SC might have balanced out the extra flower/eg, etc.
Okay I'm slightly confused as to what you did.
Are you saying you used two cakes mixes plus the rest of the ingredients for the WASC cake AND then added the extra ingredients for the extender recipe?
The Extender Recipe is basicly the same thing as the WASC with a few variations. The flavors you use and the amount of salt are different, but the rest I believe is the same. And the WASC is a double recipe where as the Extender is a single.
I'm not sure how what you are making will turn out. I would just bake it and then try a little to see how it worked out.
