I send along a 6-inch cake with the wedding cake for the bride and groom to enjoy on their wedding night, since often they never get a chance to eat. I tape 2 forks and 2 napkins to the inside top of the cake box - like a picnic basket!

My signature brownie flavour.

And I have two weddings in October which I planned to include little mini's decorated as bride and groom outfits to give the bride and groom for their wedding night, because I thought the same thing, many times they don't get the chance to eat, I love the idea of taping the forks and napkins in the box, I'll definitely be adding that!

One will be extra cool because while they chose fruit cake I took note of the other cakes each of them liked at the tasting so I'll be doing each little cake in the flavour that they liked.

I'm just starting out too, so more ideas to come as the business grows! I love some of the ideas here, very cool.

purplebutterfly,
I can't remember the name of the company, I'll have to look it up. They were very reasonable. I called and they sent me several sample styles for me to choose from. I got an average pie/cake server (triangle with a bend, then handle) the handle has a little cake logo and my business name and phone number. It's been good, people really appreciate it!
I'll try to post the name tomorrow or Sunday!

I don't know if this is Lori's company she uses, but I saw an ad for www.LoTechInc.com for the Custom imprinted serving utensils.

Yep, it was definately LoTech. If you see their phone number, just call them up, they were really helpful with samples and stuff. -Lori

Sorry, I checked the LoTech site again, and it is still under construction. I thought it was just a temporary thing when I posted the link earlier. The phone number listed in the ad is 1-800-285-0199.

I was just wondering icon_rolleyes.gif about this too.

*Has anyone said anything about not liking this....health reasons maybe someone would point out??? Even though it says non-toxic? Does everyone just put it on, or ask first?! LOL!

I just sprinkle away. I think people assume that everything on the cake is edible unless you tell them otherwise. I even write any special instructions on the cake box so there is no confusion, (e.g. keep refrigerated or plastic ... pick, etc.).

I talked to the Lotech woman today, and she was so sweet! She asked where I heard of her, and I told her cc. She may pm you to thank you, Lori! It seemed like she was a member. 55 cents a piece with a 100 minimum and a one-time $45 charge to set your message. They keep it on file so you can call back to order more anytime and not be charged the $45 fee again. White or black, cake knife or cake server, other stuff for other bakery items, and she's sending me samples for free! Thanks, Lori.... Cheryl

These ideas are all so great--I know at our wedding I was really disappointed not to get to really enjoy the cake (and that was even before I became addicted)! icon_eek.gif

Also, I just had to say--Nicolevoorhout, how very observant and caring/kind of you to pay that much attention, so that the bride and groom get to enjoy their own personal preferences from your taste-testing on their wedding night! thumbs_up.gif

I usually include a card, depending what the cake is for. Like last weekend I did a cake inspired by Bratz for a 9 year old girl for her birthday. In the cake box I included a birthday card and some Bratz stickers. I buy cards in bulk, so they don't really cost much, and if its a child, I usually try to include stickers of some sort - I know my kids LOVE stickers!

I too also try to do something cool with cake boards, something that compliments the cake.

I have been looking into pink boxes too - but I have only found them in bulk and just don't have the storage. The member (sorry, I have to go back and check the name) with the Tiffany Blue boxes, where did you get them? I also love the cake server ideas!!!

I don't have the time right now to read through all of these but I did read the first page and there are some wonderful ideas icon_smile.gif I love the ideas of putting a thank you card in the box and the ribbon around the box also! Do you tie a bow and all that? How does the customer see the cake if it's all tied up?

I'll come back and read again tomorrow

One thing I like to do with brides and anniversary cakes is make a thank you card at shutterfly.com I upload all my pics to shutterfly anyway so all I have to do is make up a personal greeting card for them and it has a picture of their cake on the front in a fancy frame. Then I have a greeting inside saying thank you and whatnot and I put their wedding date on the left side. Shutterfly will mail the card directly to them with my return address with a stamp so it looks like I mailed it myself. It gets there pretty quickly too icon_smile.gif

Also, I'm pretty much the only bakery around besides the grocery stores so there is everything that comes with that that sets me apart.

when i tie ribbons around the box, i dont do it from the bottom up towards and over the top of the box. i do it around the sides...from the back, around towards the front and put the bow in the front. this way the box can be opened up as often as needed without having to redo the bow. i did one this morning where i also added a hanging crystal and initial (pre-cut card stock from scrapbooking supplies). its a nice touch because it really personalizes it for the recipiant.
