Hi everyone this is my first post here. I have been lurking for a while now. Their is so much to read and so many beautiful cakes to look at. I am amazed at some of them. I hope one day I can be as good as you guys.
for my daughters b-day last year I decided to decorate a cake for her and that started it. although the stars were not all perfect it turned out really well and tasted very good. my DH has a huge family and I have made several cakes for different people in his family. the only thing is I still haven't been able to take a cake decorating class. I have been trying to get into a class for over a year now. I talked to the girl who does the classes and ask her if she had a day class and she said she was probably going to have one call back the next month, well this has gone on for a while and then they don't do classes in the summer so now I figure since my son is 14 he can babysit at night and I will just have to take the night class. well I called again to sign up and missed the class again. icon_cry.gif
so I was wondering if anyone here knows if the Wilton Bake Decorate Celebrate dvd's are any good?
since it doesn't look like I am going to get into a class anytime soon I guess I am going to order the Wilton practice board set so I can practice on that.
Also I have tried to add a picture but it seems to be too big. can anyone tell me how to resize my pictures.

thanks so much
Tammy

Welcome to CC! Im not sure about the Wilton dvds but there are a lot of different books and videos by other people in the cake decorating world that probably would be better.
As for resizing your pictures. you need something like photoshop, illustrator, paint, some kind of editor on your computer and adjust the amount of pixels and size of the image. If you own a camera phone, for some reason the size is always right for me and just email it to myself.

Hi and welcome!! Can't help you with the picture thing, but thought I'd comment about the classes. I am a Wilton Method Instructor and even though the classes are the best way to learn, it sounds like you can't get them in. I would suggest since you already have some experience that you just go to your local store that holds classes and buy the books. They are really good at explaining step by step that I think you could learn on your own. At least that would be ok with Course 1. Start from there and see how it goes! Good luck!

check out the bakedecoratecelebrate.com web it has a lot of helpful hints and recipes and so much more. It shows you pictures and tells you what you need and what tips, etc... They also have charts and a lot of good ideas. I think I copied every page on that website. Good Luck!

I would look online at wilton.com to check about the classes. If all else fails & it almost seems that way. Get the books from the craft store & practice.
You can go to
www.photobucket.com to resize pictures. I also have adobe reader photo shop. I got it when I updated my adobe reader thing try
www.adobe.com or goggle adobe photoshop
Good Luck
Also another good one is www.Picasa.com
Almost forgot that one thumbs_up.gif

Hello...here is a site you can upload your photos to and re-size them. I use it all the time. http://www.resize2mail.com/index.php It is very easy to do. Good luck. I also have another suggestion for you to help you learn decorating. I was on E-Bay the other day and came across some of the Wilton Course books. You might want to check them out! icon_wink.gif

Oh I love that show! That's what got me started decorating, watching Nancy Siler make everything look so easy! I never took any classes, she covers a lot of techniques on that show and between that, cake central and the Wilton forum, I am pretty much covered if I want to learn anything.

thank you all for your help. I am gonna go by the store this week and see if I can find those books. from what the lady told me tonight the next available class is not until October. maybe just maybe I will be able to get signed up for that one.
as for the resizing I have a digital camera and haven't had to resize anything in a while. I forgot that I had a program on my computer before but I guess I lost it when I had to get my computer fixed. I am going to have to find it and upload it.
thanks
Tammy

I know this is not the computer wise way to do it, but I got some of my pictures to be the right size by emailing them to myself. When it asked me if I wanted to keep original or resize for emailing, I let it resize them. Then I just right clicked on the picture and saved it to my flash drive. Then in the download photo section on CC, I did a search and clicked on it that way. I am not really good with all things on the computer, but this did work for me. Sorry if it offends all the computer literate people! icon_sad.gif

Have sweet cake dreams!

havingfun that sounds pretty clever to me.

well I got a few pictures uploaded. I have done many other cakes but the quality of the pictures aren't that great. when I started making cakes I didn't have a digital camera. I uploaded a dora cake that I did last month but I had to delete it and crop it cause I had no idea my camera's date was wrong. it had 2005 instead of 2007 icon_lol.gif
thanks for all your advise.

dupart30-
Welcome aboard!
I tried to comment on your cakes, but I think you need to enable it, I couldn't leave anything!
I think your cakes look great, I would be extremely proud, especially if I hadn't had any lessons!
f.y.i- the lady I get my supplies from says the wilton basic decorating is the best one to start with (I personally don't know)...

You might want to let us know what state you are in too. There might be people out there that might help you out finding a class or even just getting together to practice and learn.

Good Luck.

Have you looked on the Wilton site to see if there is another location in your area that offers the classes?
