Ok well I have only done a plan 2 layer cake with NOTHING on it! My moms 50th b-day is on Aug 31st and I am determined to make an AWESOME cake using fondant and a 2 tier cake! My questions What is a Good tasting Fondant to use, Do i have to buy the already colored fondant or can i just put food coloring it ?? Also i see A LOT Of zebra print fondant (should i stay away from that b/c of it being my first fondant cake? If not how is the Zebra stripes made?? Ok well if you can answer any of these questions it would be totally helpful!! Thanx a bunch!!

Most brands of ready to use fondant are great. wilton is less than great, but it works beautifully.
Zebra stripes are most likely painted on. That would be the easiest. Black gel color can be painted directly on the cake-remember everyone will have black mouth and teeth.
Yes you can color fondant with gel, liquid or powdered color. It takes some effort to knead it in, and you will need to adjust by adding cornstarch or powdered sugar for wet color, and shortening for dry color.
You might want to stick to white for your first time out.
Thank you so much!!

I really like michele fosters recipe here at cc. I like it with lemon extract added b/c it cuts the sweetness. Orange extract is also good when added. You can flavor it with whatever you like and that will compliment your cake.
