As many of you may know from my last post, I was asked if i would make a brides main flowers to match her sugarpaste flowers that i made for her cake. Well here is a pic of them together. My only problem is that this is the closest gold colour match that I can get. My DH says that she is not giong to be close to the cake all the time so it won't be an issue, but I'm not totally convinced.......What do you think?????? P.S I have never done floristry before. The bride hasn't seen them yet either!!!

I'm not a fan.... if they are fake - my suggestion would be to go and find some pale yellow roses and then lightly spray paint them w/ some gold spray paint. Your sugar flowers are beautifull!!!! They just look more tan to me than gold. You definitely need some fillers though, other then all of the gold ivy leaves.

I have ordered some filler, but they haven't arrived yet. I did but pale yellow roses, thats just the way they turned out!!! the bride is going to wear cream not white as shown in the pic. thanks for the honesty though!!!

LOL, insecurity is not pretty. icon_wink.gif (I'm joking, and hope you weren't really serious either!)

Your sugar flowers are beautiful. To get them as gold as that bouquet, paint them with (or dip them in) 24K ground gold mixed with lemon extract or everclear. I paint stuff with gold as often as I can because it's so lustrous and beautiful!

I think it looks great.....you just need more "filler" I would say.

This is meant to be a compliment so be sure you take it that way: icon_smile.gif
Your sugarpaste flowers are GAW-juhs. Whatever gold you've got in your bouquet... not so much. I agree with meancat re: the color. That's why I love yours and not so much the bouquet - you've got this great subtle tonal thing going on.
Again, meant to be a compliment to YOUR fabulous sugar work, not a knock on your floral arranging.
I think you need to go more true to your vision on the sugar flowers - I understand her bouquet needs to be larger, but no need to have it drape so far down.
Another thought... have you tried starting with the off-white or pale gold flowers, and using EXACTLY what you used on the sugarpaste? It could work (especially if you use some spray adhesive or something before dusting it on). Dunno. May as well give it a go and see what happens. Ask at Michael's or the place you're getting the flowers if they have any suggestions, too.

your flowers are just beautiful icon_smile.gif I agree with the need for fillers... it would make it look more lush and full...

I also think they are lovely. Much better than anything I could have done that is for sure...but I guess that is not much of a compliment icon_redface.gif Seriously I think they are beautiful, once you put in the filler it is going to be gorgeous. thumbs_up.gif

Did you put luster dust on them? I think that would help. Since she is not going to eat them you could actually use gold spray paint on her bouquet. Actually that would be better because luster dust will get all over everything.

Maybe you can fill it with gold flowers, like the bouquet- but use sparingly, because your flowers are so pretty, you don't want them overwhelmed. Another thing to, if you paint your flowers gold, could you perhaps paint just the edges, instead of the whole flower. icon_smile.gif

I would put some gold lustre dust on the sugarpaste flowers to make them more like the bouquet. If that's what the problem is to get them to match. One is all shiny (the bouquet), but the sugarpaste flowers are not. A little bling would work wonders I think. They both look great, I do agree though that the bouquet is a little long but that depends on what the bride wants.

Thanks for the comments, The idea i was trying to go for was more cream than gold so it wouldn't over-power the bouquet. I used spary paint on it but it seamed duller so i will play around with it ( i have got 4 months so thats no prob ) and now i think about it,( cos you've said it ) all the gold ivy is a bit much, maybe if i trim it a little would that help? I keep trying to imagine it against a cream wedding dress........I don't know, thats why I'm asking you guys. ( what or who is 'a michaels'? ) sorry but i live in wales.

I think a couple of people are confused, she wants know how the bouquet looks that she made, not the sugar paste flowers. I think you did a good job on the bouquet and an outstanding job on the sugar paste flowers.

Oh okay, Hon..... I do ALOT of bouquets, and what I find that is not "quite right", is there is to much GOLD in the bridal bouquet..... The bride's flowers should be the off white with just a gold accent to pick up the rest of the wedding colors.... also there are to many vines hanging down....... I did my Granddaughter's bouquet, and I thought it was BEAUTIFUL.... so did she, UNTIL she held it in front of her..... She looked like she had been swallowed by her bouquet....... LOL! I had to do it over and keep in mind her 4'11" height..... If you could make the bridal bouquet just a little larger than the sugar bouquet, and addd your filler, it would be just beautiful....... Please don't be mad at me for saying all that..... it is just that I have been through it so many times, and I hate to have you go through the frustration....... It looks like it is going to be a fabulous wedding..

I think your sugarpaste bouquet is lovely. Did she definitely want an *exact* replica? It might be easier to do creme flowers with gold ribbon looped throughout. You could match the colors - but maybe not put the gold flowers in.

IMO the gold is a bit gaudy...but if the bride loves it, that's all that matters. Maybe show her a pic of this one and other options and see what she likes.
