Okay...so today was uh interesting. I was making a cake, and I started smelling something funny. So I look in my oven, and I've got batter over flowing. ![]()
So from the oven floor, the batter proceeded to go into the area of the fire...not good! So then I got my cake out, and turned off the oven, by this time there is smoke in my kitchen. So I look into the oven and I see fire. Thought. Turn off the oven. Hmm fire is not going out. Thought.
Throw baking soda onto the fire. New fragrance created "Smoky Baking Soda" -I don't think Glade will endorse it either. Smoke is now pouring into the kitchen. Shut oven door. Smoke clears. I thought okay it wasn't so bad, I'll finish cooking the cake. Fire starts again. Pull cake out. Let oven cool completely. Dis-assembled oven. Scraped out cake ashes. Put oven back together. Turned on oven...yeah NO MORE FIRES, my cake finished cooking...and it didn't burn.
Point of my story...it's always a good idea to measure your cake batter ![]()
what a horrible mess! glad it worked out ok in the end and not having to get the fire department - another thought and what i do is i put a "dip pan" under the cake or on the lower rack so avoid that issue
Boy am I glad that I'm not the only one this has happened too.
Did you have the added joy of the all the smoke alarms in the house going off - and your "loving"
son telling his Dad "Hey mom's cooking again!"
Glad everything turned out alright and I'll second the motion on Measuring batter
