I want to say I am ALWAYS amazed at what my DH is capable of! I have been up baking at night because I have 3 kids that seem to always have to be in the kitchen when I bake. And DH had made comments about me staying up late...so I figured it wouldn't be long before he starts asking WHY I am wanting to bake for other people. He had made comments about not having enough space yet (we are looking for a new house) for all of my baking stuff. I have 2 KA's and they take up A LOT of space. So when I got home from running to the nearest big town to a hobby lobby to get my cake supplies for my next cake I came in to this piece of furnature that my husband thoughtfully had bought at a antique shop near his work. It is a flour bin cabinet and the work space is in perfect condition!!! He told me he was having it refinished so I didn't have to worry. He is taking it in on Mon and it will be done by the Christmas baking season !!!! I know it's kinda homely now...but look at all the space! My cake mixes fit perfectly at the top! I just love him!!!! ![]()
How lucky for you! Isn't it nice when they (our men) surprise us like that?

I agree--and it's usually the little things. I mentioned to my DH that I wanted him to make me a thing to keep all my ribbon spools on. I had in my mind only 1 stick in a board. Well, he went one step further and put 5 sticks on a board. And he's making another one for the bigger spools of curling ribbon. Love him!!!!
Your Hoosier cabinet is wonderful. I love them!!
If it has the original paint I wouldn't have it refinished. It knocks down the value immensely. Although it does look as if it has been ''repainted'' some time ago.
Good luck using it and keep that great hubby!!
The flour bins till works....hmmm..can I use that for anything? Well thinking about putting a contraption for stacking my cakes on their sides where the flour bin is. There is enough space for about 15! I do love him although sometimes I would like to hang him by his toe nails sometimes LOL. ![]()
I've been looking for a Hoosier just like that (minus the paint) for ages!! Down here in the South if those things are still around they're still being used in someone's kitchen...not many for sale. So jealous ![]()
Really happy for you that DH did such a sweet thing! They really are awesome storage and look great at the same time.
They are actually VERY hard to find intact with everything original...I have a very rare sized one that we use to store our paperwork in and board games in the living room. Its 1/2 a hooser. I think he said he paid 150.00 for this one. But refinishing it will be more than that..but who am I to complain!?!
Wow that is a great find! I hope that after the paint comes off you will have a wonderful suprise waiting. I have refinished a few peices and am excited to see what is under the paint. Most of the time I can't believe someone covered the wood in the first place. My prized piece was my husband's great grandparents pie cabinet from the late 1800's. I spent hours refinishing it and it looks great--now we have to replace the top door panels with glass since the originals were gone when we got it. Good luck on the project!
Our antique markets down here in the Knoxville area have them all the time.
I've seen them for a while now, (I like the ones that have the flour sifters still in them!) I'd love to have one. I just don't have the room for it in my house right now.
Maybe in the den, which is slowly but surely becoming the "cake" area. That's where I have all my pans and decorating stuff taking up room!
That's a really nice one you've got--I'm sure you'll get LOTS of use out of it, and compliments, too! ![]()

I'm so happy for you. I've been keeping my eye out for a Hoosier cabinet I could afford for several years.

I LOVE THAT! I love green (doing my kitchen in country colors) and my DH loves roosters (you would have never known it...we had 16 chickens and roosters that use to run loose in our yard LOL they were cool though).
I want one. I have been trying to figure out what to do for space in my kitchen and that is what I want for Christmas!!!!!
Congrads, and yes that was extremely sweet of him. Don't men just really suprise you sometimes?
I have wanted a Hoosier for years also, congratulations on the great present and great hubby
