My very first thought was the cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's FREEBIRD album.

What an awesome song!

This is the funniest posting that I've read in some time! LMBO!!!!! I LOVE the Monopoly card idea. Of course, if it's for a repeat offender, like my BIL, how about..."Welcome Home...Again..." LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! My DH and BIL couldn't possibly be more different. DH is as straight-laced as they come, and BIL is a "law-breaking, drunk driving, can't work for more than a day without being 'let go', toothless wonder," as I call him... Can you guess...no teeth? LOL. Boy I'm rambling. I'd definitely check with the customer prior to doing a cake with any "humor" to it given the delicate situation. Good luck and I can't wait to see your creation!!!

ROFL at all the post. I would do a little "investigation" work to see what offense he committed.

Hopefully, he will want to get on the right track (after being incarcerated) with his life. He probably will be placed on Probation and/or Parole. I would keep the cake simple. I'm sure he will be pleased with whatever cake you design.

If the family wants a funny cake, I really like JoannaK's idea of the empty jail cell with GONE FOR GOOD SIGN. Looking forward to update with photo and the familys reaction.

I've represented several criminals and I've prosecuted many of them and I can tell you that I don't believe that any of them would be offended by the ideas mentioned. Most offenders develop a sense of humor in jail or they wouldn't survive it. I would probably try to do a jail cell 3-d cake with a "For Sale-Owner Permanently Relocating" type sign. The offender will probably love it. Good Luck. It's probably safe to assume that if they are asking for a cake they are really open to whatever you may decide. The ideas mentioned are absolutely funny!!!! Oh, if you do a cell make sure to put in a steel bed and toilet!!!!

Love, love the ideas. I actually didn't think I was going to get a lot of responses. The wife is open to anything. I mentioned how about a welcome home cake or something with broken chains or handcuffs and she loved this idea. I was going with a FBCT of handcuff fists with a broken chain but I may change my idea with some of the suggestions given here. My favorite ones:

Jail cell with a sign: gone for good

For rent: permanently relocating

3D cell with bed and toilet

It is just a 10" x3" square so I don't think I want to spend a lot of time on this.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. By the way, he was only gone for 2 years and it was not a violent crime nor a repeat offender. I really think this change his life for the better.

Forgot to add that the other idea I liked was the bill of sale with "Debt to society" and the words "PAID" on top.

Let's see which one I'll do.

Ok, this is bad, but when I saw this post, I automatically thought of Back to the Future, when they had a cake for "Uncle Jailbird Joey". Unfortunately, he didn't get out to see his cake....

I personally like the get out of jail free card idea and also the broken handcuffs - something uplifting!

Good luck!

Thank you all for all the wonderful ideas. I decided to go with the broken chains idea. The picture is in my photos. I heard that everyone liked the cake and the free man loved it. Some people even took pictures of it with their camera phone.

If I had the time I woud have gone with the 3D cell with a for sale sign on it. I just thought I was not going to get a lot of responses and did not check the post until the day I was doing the cake.
