I am excited! Our local store already has a teacher (I took her classes), but she is part time and college full time, and they wanted to offer a day class, so she pushed for me! How cool is that? So I am right in the middle of the process now.

It is perfect for me...I love to play with cakes, I am enthusiastic about sharing the learning, I am a stay at home mom who needs to get out once in awhile, and now I can support my habit!

Congrats!

I've taught at Hobby Lobby (5 years) and Garden Ridge (1 year) and am now the morning instructor at Michael's. Michael's is great for several reasons: no minimum number of students needed, Michael's REALLY pushes the cake decorating classes in their stores, 25% store associate discount card, plenty of paid class previews and demos to do (I think up to 3 per month) and the availability of medical, dental, and vision insurance for part-timers. Michael's considers all Wilton instructors as part-timers even though we don't actually work in the store as anything beyond the cake decorating instructors. Pretty cool! The downside: your earnings are taxed as a regular employee (as opposed to having W-9s mailed at the end of the year) and you get paid every other week only for the number of classes you taught (as opposed to being paid in full for the whole course after teaching the first night of class). Overall, I think the pros outweigh the cons. icon_biggrin.gif

Have fun! OH, I almost forgot...all instructors get to take all the other classes for free. After the first of the year, I'm planning on taking a bunch of painting classes! w00t!

Great for you Lisa!!! I have been teaching at Michael's for a little while and so far I like it. The only problem I run into is the store coordinator loves to schedule other things in the same classroom. I am sorry, but I cannot teach four women how to decorate a cake when she has 8 children in there decorating pumpkins! It really kind of irks me. Oh well... c'est la vie, n'est ce que pas? I like it despite the little irritations!!

Me too. It took them forever to get my paperwork done, but I am starting classes in November and demos at the end of this month. I'm so excited.
