Ok so i quit my job today... ( very long and uninteresting story) and now I'm forced to make a big decision...do I go out and find another job that I hate... OR do I stay up all night and bake muffins, cookies and brownies, pile them in a basket and sell them door to door at the many office buildings near me?
Paula Deen started out by selling bag lunches. I really want to make a go at this "baking thing". My hubby says to whatever will make me happy, as long as we don't go broke in the mean time. I guess if no one buys from my basket we will be able to eat goodies for dinner...

When Paula started, the health department wasn't paying that much attention. You must work from a commercial kitchen in Florida.

You can try it, but if they catch you you can be fined and your business shut down for several years.

I wouldn't buy muffins or cookies from someone selling them door to door. To creepy. Sorry.

you can bake in a legal commercial kitchen and deliver in a little, very tidy, well wrapped basket icon_wink.gif

Why don't you try selling cakes through word of mouth. I'm in Florida and you wouldn't believe how many home bakers I know.

I only do this as a hobby. But most of the people I know that sell cakes as home bakers rely mostly on word of mouth. Some even have websites.

I think just to be on the safe side, you should find another job and try to build up a cake clientele in the mean time. Once you have lots of orders, you could quit your job.
