Ok, last night I tried to put some cookie sticks in my unbaked cookies so I could make a cookie bouquet. I was able to get the stick to stay in until after it baked but it came off immediately or wouldn't hold inside the cookie.

Can someone please help me with this technique? How should I proceed when adding sticks to my cookies?

I asked the same question last week and it helped that I flipped the cookie so the back was up press the stick down into the cookie that is about 1/4" thick until it is level with the back of the cookie. Use a little dought and roll into a snake to cover the stick and press it over the stick onto the rest of the cookie. Flip onto a pan and bake. I just did a bunch yesterday for a 40th b'day and they stayed together. So thanks to all that helped me with this and hope this helps!

I have never managed to bake the sticks in the cookies so I just put them on the backs with melted candy. icon_lol.gif Some people put them in after they are done baking and still hot but I always break mine.

I also don't use cookie sticks, I use the bamboo skewers, they're cheaper and I can make the sticks different lengths which is good to put them in at different heights.

A couple of questions for you:

What type of sticks are you using?

What recipe did you use for the dough?

How thick did you roll the dough?

I've made lots of cookies on sticks, always put the sticks in before baking, and have never had a problem with them. I don't like the cookie sticks too well, because the butter from the cookie tends to discolor it. I have used bamboo skewers, wood coffee stirring sticks, cheap wood chopsticks, and 1/8 inch dowel rods cut to length.

Occasionally the cookies made on bamboo skewers will get loose, because the skewer is very smooth and slick and I think it's hard for the cookie dough to "grab" it. If that happens I just take the stick out, put a bit of royal icing in the hole and put the stick back in. When the royal dries it holds the cookie well.

Laura.

That's a great idea Laura! I stick my sticks in after baking, right after I take them out of the oven and they occasionally become loose. I never of putting royal in the hole. LOL. I would always put royal around the area where the stick and the cookie meet. I'm such a dork icon_cool.gif

This may sound silly but here goes.........I usually make thick cookies when I put them on sticks and thinner cookies when there are no sticks. So since I usually cut out and put in the freezer until I am ready to bake, I cut all of my cookies to be thin. When I want to put them on sticks, I put one thin cookies on the baking sheet, put a stick on top and then top with another cookies. That way the stick is sandwiched in the middle. I let the cookies thaw a little before I put them in the oven add a "little pressure" to set the stick and bake away. May sound silly to a lot of you but I can always change my min and either make with or without sticks.
