I am new to this and love seeing eveyone's picture and valueable information on the forum. Ya'll are great. I read something about smoothing your icing with a paper towel. Did I see that right? How do you do that? Thanks

On the same note, I read the Viva method on CC once before. And I tried smoothing with wax paper instead because I didnt have the Viva paper towel and my frosting stuck to it. Maybe it hadn't crusted enough. I was using the wilton recipe frosting.

Net, Net I would love to hear instructions again as well. I don't seem to be doing it right.

Hi and Welcome,

The viva trick:

If you're not creating a contoured cake, just start with #8.

Here's a thread on smoothing buttercream:

Melvira's trick: (which can be used with Viva method)

There is the link to the Viva method. I've tried this, works pretty good! Melvira's method is excellent also!

I always put the BC on, wait about 1/2hr, grab the waxed paper and the bent spatula, and smooth away.

Works great for me, but I am intrigued by some of the other methods people have written about here on CC. icon_biggrin.gif
