ok I love living here I do but I made my first cake tonight while living in ks and well all the houses in ks are old and most are not level including mine but I thought my cake would be ok I guess I thought wrong because my cake came out completley lopsided 2 inches high at one side and less than a half an inch on the other. so now im making anther cake and im going to turn it around so the thin side is on the thick side of the other cake. what a pain stupid ks. wish me luck on working in this humidity for the first time tommrow.
I was going to say the same thing, level your oven. : ) I have two ovens for some reason (came with the house). Both are probably original when it was built, LOL. One leans backwords into the wall and the other is fine. It makes me nuts when I have to use the tilted one. It's actually a wall oven so not sure how to level it. But it's not to big an issue since I have the other stove/oven combo.
Just to set the record straight, I live in KS and my house is neither old nor sitting at a slant! I agree with the others that your oven is obviously the problem. Don't blame the state for that! I was born here! By the way, welcome aboard, I think it'll grow on you!
Good Luck! -Lori
Really its not kansas and this is not the first time I lived here I went to a couple years of high school here and college too. and never did I say every house in ks is not level its just that in the town I live in is an old old mineing town and so most houses are not built on very level ground. as far as leveling the oven im not going to bother with that as this house is just a rental a place to unload the truck while we look for a house we would like to buy. I wonder if the people selling that house would let me bake a cake before I decieded to buy it. ![]()
