I made this cake for my family for Sunday dinner tomorrow. I have admired all the recent pink cakes with poured chocolate ganache and the daisies. Well, I wanted to do something different and use blue, even though I prefer the look of the pink. I hate this color of blue and it got darker, so I now I don't like it even more. My ganache was too thick and it looks bad. I don't like my daisies, they look wilted. I have to figure out what the others did to give their daisies some "life".

This is a dark chocolate fudge cake and filled with whipped ganache. It is iced in vanilla buttercream with poured ganache. At least it should taste good.

I almost didn't take a picture, but decided I might regret it later. Might as well have the good with the bad.

I like it! It looks retro and cool. I'm sorry you're not thrilled with it, but I think it's fab!

Your cake looks great! I think you probably don't like it because you had something else in mind, but remember, no one else knows that! To everyone else, it's just a gorgeous cake!

I think your cake is great. I like the blue color too. Maybe you could try white chocolate next time. Just a suggestion. As for your daisies, did you use fondant or use Royal?

i think it looks awesome!

for the daisies, you can dry them in the wilton flower formers or even a papertowel roll cut in half to get them to dry curved.

Doug,

Your post made me smile. I would send you a piece if I could.

dandelion,

Thank you for telling me about the flower former or better yet a paper towel roll cut in half. I will try that next time.

Misdawn,

I used Rhonda's Ultimate MMF. Actually, the blue isn't so bad next to the daisies, but for some reason I think the ganache just throws it off.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it... it looks great and I love the idea... I probably just would have waited until last minute to put the flowers on.... I also love the blue, it's so cheerful and bright peeking out from the ganache icon_smile.gif I would second the idea of the Wilton flower formers... they're great to give a good curve to the flowers and they come in several sizes for different flowers icon_smile.gif

Hi I think it looks great - would suggest using less colour and/or perhaps you could mix the colour before you add it to the icing that way you will get close to what you want and remember it does darken after about 1 hour so add a little colour and wait for 1 hour before adding more. I can taste your cake from here, Leonie, Brisbane, Australia

I like your cake. Funny how we can picture something in our mind and when it comes out different we think disaster. I am very guilt of that also. I like retro. Puts me in mind of the '57 Chevy - that went mudding icon_biggrin.gif

Good job and enjoy your cake tomorrow.

turnerdmann,

You are so right about something being a disaster in our eyes. That is why I titled this thread, "Disaster in my eyes". Sort of like, "the beauty is in the eye of the beholder". To me this was a disaster according to how I had it pictured in my mind. Thank goodness it is for family and not someone else. Don't get me wrong, I want the best for my family also.

I think another thing that made this a "disaster in my eyes" is the fact that I go back to work (school) Tuesday, so my cake decorating will seriously slow down and this is not how I intended to end my summer vacation. I have really enjoyed my summer vacation and having this time to enjoy cake decorating.

well, I like the blue and you frosted it nice and smooth! I do see that the ganache is a bit thick but it's not that bad. Someone already suggested the flower formers so you don't need me to suggest that icon_wink.gif

I've made some uglier cakes before. Live and learn icon_wink.gif I'd eat it icon_lol.gif
