Can I use salted butter if my recipe calls for unsalted butter. I am using the Martha Stewart Italian Meringue Butter cream. I don't feel like going to the store.

I haven't tried salted in the recipe, but I know that unsalted has a higher melting point. The salted butter will cut down on the sweetness a bit, but I don't know what the consequences, overall, would be.

I assume that egg whites will fall/ fail? Could I use Crisco instead?

I used salted butter in mine and it turned out fine. I don't know what it was supposed to taste like, but it sure was yummy using the salted.
