Hello everyone! I am making up a dummy cake for a fair this weekend and I would really like to dowel as well as glue some areas for extra strength .. the dummy cakes are made out of regular Styrofoam so I was just wondering if elmers glue would work ok for that or should I use something special like crazy glue? Thanks for any help!
regular glue-even superglue does not stick styrofoam pieces very well. I know it sounds crazy, but Royal Icing is a better glue than actual glue is in my experience when working with styrofoam. Maybe someone else has used another medium that works better. Good luck! ![]()
ok so now my question is this ... what would work better royal icing or Styrofoam glue? This will be outside for a week in august in the hot muggy air .. thanks again!
try to get a product called "5200" it is a marine adhesive it comes in a tube like toothpaste or like caulk if you need that much. it comes in white and a teak color. any hardware store should be able to order it for you. i believe it is a 3m product.

Hmmm I use my glue gun to stick Styrofoam together all the time.
What about a simple hot glue gun. I would think it shouldn't melt the styrofoam. And it should stand up to all weather. I have used it for cake boards. I just move quickly and get them together before it hardens so it can be even.
What do you think?
