taking my cake entry to our County Fair this morning. Crossing my fingers that it makes the 10 miles to town over rough country roads - anyway -
This cake is sooooo full of firsts for me!! My first shoe, my first tiara, first corners with fondant, first gift box, first open lid, etc. As you can see I wasn't afraid to try something new -- I think the fair competition is a perfect place to try out new techniques. Stressful - but not as stressful as for a customer. As per fair rules, cake is a dummy and Everything is edible. Base is 12x18 - max board to use was 14x20. Overall height of cake is just under 14" - max was 14".
This cake has soo much inspiration from others here on CC - especially adven68, boonenati, and carrielynnfield - and many others.
Any way wish me luck -- only 3 hours till judging!!! Photos are not the best.
I wish you luck, although you won't need it. Your cake it absolutely beautiful and will win hands down!!!
OMG, bert, that's an incredible cake.
I've been going to the county fair for years, and I've never seen a cake as complicated and trend-setting as yours.
You'll be bringing home a blue ribbon, for sure.
This is beautiful, I wish you the very best, let us know how you do. When is the judging?
Wow! I've never seen a cake like yours at our county fair either! It's fabulous. I'm sure you'll clean up in the ribbons!

For a cake with so many firsts, it certainly doesn't look like it.It looks as if an old pro made it. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
