I bake a dozen different varieties every year. My standards are Toll House, peanut butter, and shortbread. The other 9 are all different.
A good website for cookie recipes is:

I make snowballs, coconut macaroons, dipped shortbread, spice cookies, peanut butter blossoms. I always have a cookie exchange every year and sell cookies and things at our church bazaar.
I haven't sold cookie platters yet but make dozens each year to give away to friends, family, co-workers and to ship overseas to our troops. My cookies/candies change each year. This year in addition to the regular stuff (decorated sugar cookies, fudge, etc) I am adding a ginger cookies, white chocolate cranberry cookies and rasberry thumbprints. I like to really vary the taste and textures on each platter so it will have something to appeal to everyone.
Sorry, that was supposed to be raspberry thumbprints.
What kind do you plan on making this year?
I have a cookie press. I usually end up making several, several dozen (at least I did when I had more time...before I was a Mommy)....I went through most of the pattern disks w/lots of dough! Then, I got creative. Sometimes I'd just sprinkle w/colored sugars...some I'd drizzle w/icing (like a different color one way, another crossing back).
I plan to make a lot of cookies this Christmas! I want to get a set of 10 star shaped cutters (Wilton kit) and make the Christmas trees with those.
I want to do something different this year, so maybe the tree will be it.
Also, have you thought about doing the GIANT COOKIE? I'm getting ready to do that for b-day for twins next week. A really pretty c-mas tree and/or snowman...or wreath...ah, endless possibilities on that....would be so nice!
Also...I love the magic cookie bars or they are also called 7 layer cookies. Those are always a big hit. I have to look up the recipe everytime I use it, though. I know one layer is sweetened condensed milk, one is coconut, one is choc. chips...don't rem. the others...then you press them down in the pan....yum
AND...I got my hands on some lemon flavored confectioners' sugar once. ONLY ONCE...AND I'VE NEVER SEEN IT AGAIN...and made some awesome lemon sugar cookies from the recipe on the bag. Then made a 'drizzle' out of the c.sugar after they were baked/cooled. THey were really good and loved by all!!!!!!!
If anyone knows where to get teh lemon sugar, lemme know!
Have never seen the lemon sugar but I have a wonderful lemon cookie recipe. It's got a glaze on the top with fresh lemon zest. I can dig it out tomorrow if anyone is interested.
Here is the link to a great cookie/goodie topic from last year although new recipes are always welcome!

I always do a cookie exchange, but each year I try out new recipes. In the past I've done caramel pecan thumbprints, sugar cookies, and chocolate or cinnamon crackles. I also have an excellent recipe for lemon sandwich cookies, which might be my favorite cookie ever. They have a light sugar cookie on the outside and then are filled with a lemon buttercream. Truly simple and melt in your mouth delish! The recipe calls to dip them in chocolate and then nuts, but I've never gotten that far, they are so good plain. PM me if you want the recipe, and if I get enough I'll just post it. Maybe I will make some and post pics!
As far as lemon sugar goes, Martha made it with regular sugar by processing it with lemon zest. I wonder if you could do the same thing with powdered sugar?
I posted the recipes for the lemon cookies and the chocolate-caramel thumbprints in the recipe section. Happy Baking!
