I just have the $8 Trim & Turn. ![]()
I need to upgrade. Which one should I get?
why the sad face? That should be my look. I never even purchased one. I still do the "grab the end of the cake board and hope like hell that when I turn it, I don't slip and stick my finger in the cake". Now that is ![]()

i have the $10 (i think) Wilton one, just the basic turntable and it does the trick for me. I used it once on a 16" square cake, and i was sort of unsure if it would hold the cake well, and it worked fine with a homemade cardboard cake board under the cake!
Polish Mommy,
First off thanks for posting that question, I need to purchase my first turntable soon. I am 6feet tall and my back can not take it I need the height....Also where in Mass are you from? I live in Florida now but lived south of Boston up until last year...Just wondering
Good Luck with your purchase I'll let ya know if I find anything Gonna do a search tonight after the kids go to bed

I bought the cheap $10 Wilton petestal turn table from Wal-Mart. I started decorating huge cupcakes (almost like mini cakes) and it worked fine. Now that I am doing bigger cakes I wished I had a larger professional one but I my Wilton one has served me well. My next purchase will be like the one above for $85. My advise....... buy the best you can with the first go round so you will not be making another purchase later.
Denise: I too am 6 foot and I use to do/still do photography and I had a stool that can be lowerd and raised and it has worked perfect for me. My back was killing me standing and bending over all the time. Now I can sit and adjust my height when doing detailed work.

BJ,
Thanks for the advice about a stool, I actually never thought of an adjustable one. I have a huge island in my kitchen so that just may work. I usually end up sitting at my kitchen table to decorate.

Denise--I'm in Western MA...almost like a different state from the Boston area. hehe ![]()
I have a turntable that I bought at the dollar store. Its worked for every cake I've ever made yet.
I have two, myself. I have the Wilton turntable/stand, and also a low turntable that is rubberized so that I can place a piece of wood on top of it so I can decorate sheet cakes without having to worry about them falling apart on the edges from bending. They serve the purpose for now atleast.

Polish Mommy,

i got the plastic wilton one. it was cheap it was like 2.00 dollars so i figured why not.
My 2 Dollar walmart plastic dealy broke after repeated abuse
last year. My local cake store had a "Grand Reopening" Sale and did the thing where you pop the balloon and get so much off. I waited and saved just to get the turntable I had been eyeing. They only had two in store, I got there early and another lady was already carring around one. It was regularly $35, I popped the balloon and got 25% off ![]()

I was a pretty happy camper. I love this one becuase it is reversable for round or sheets. I dont know who makes it but could find out if someone wants me to by calling my cake supply shop. Heather
Hi Everyone,
I have a similar turntable to the one in the picture that I bought in my local cake supply store, they are great. If you have local cake supply store they can order one for you. I have also seen them on sale at Sugarcraft.com. They are great because they are sturdy and you can decorate round cakes or sheet cakes.
Here is the link for my local cake store, will call Monday to see who makes them about ordering direct.
(well I cant figure out how to link so here is the site)

"Turntable Deluxe" 14RD 14x20 $34.50
Hi,
I'm a DIY person and built my own cake turntable. It is just like the one in the picture that is posted. Only mine is taller so that I don't have to bend. Save yourself some money and build your own. It is easy to do and you can build it to the size and height that you prefer.
If anyone wants the directions or would like to see mine just let me know and will post.
Once again, it is easy to build.
By the way, that is the same kind of cake turntable that sold on ebay for $150.00.
Thanks for all the replies!
That reversible one looks great! I'll have to look around for that.
My little wilton turntable has served me well, but it has a few annoying "clicks" in it. It's from bearings rolling over the seams in the plastic tray. ![]()
