so last night my husband and I put contact paper over my 24in plywood board and then I made an outline in thick royal icing around the edge and then we flooded it with thinner royal icing. Everything looked really good up until this morning! We had put the board in our guest bedroom with the door shut so the cat's couldn't get to it and when we opened up the door and looked at it we were baffled! It is pure wrinkles! What's going on and can anything be done to save this board???
awww come on .. I see you guys peeking!! ![]()
This is for my fair entry ... can't anyone help little ol' me??
Sorry I will be of no help I have never even tried anything like this - my only thought is could an air vent have blown it? Sorry I cant help and I am sorry this happened to you. Good luck w/ your cake for the fair. Sending you lots of good wishes.

Moisture? It is hot and humid as hell outside. It is no match for any ac inside. Or...bad adhesive on the paper itself so it wouldn't adhere to the board? Or...moisture in the board itself? Maybe the board was outside...brought inside for your project...then the moisture released in the ac of the house under your paper and icing...
At this point, who knows? But, one thing is for sure...start over.
thanks guys ... well the board was in the house long before I needed it for this project it is one of my regular cake boards I use ... and the house was set at 74 and with the a/c there wasn't much humidity in the house our temp thingy in the house said 48% humidity .. .sigh .. It looked soo cool when it was first done and then what a let down this morning! I felt like crying!!
If you are anywhere close to where I am......I would have to guess and say HEAT and HUMIDITY.Sounds like the paper did not adhere to your board.... I am sorry..hope you can get it fixed!
Yeah, I would think humidity too
Regardless of whether or not your air is on, humidity's going to play a factor. I've never heard of covering a board with royal....sounds cool! Have you done it before.....and if/when you did, didn't the weight of the cake on top crack it? Interesting!
no cambo this is my first time covering a board in royal ... it is or was I should say going to be for a cake fair entry ... and the cake is going to be a dummy cake so I didn't think weight would be a factor .. sigh .. I just dont know what to do now .. either pull off all that ucky royal and try it again or do it in fondant ... it looked soo good last night too!! ![]()
