I just purchased a set of linzer cookie cutters. You know the type of cutters that are usually round fluted with different shapes cut out of the middle and then you sandwich two cookies together with jam in the middle. The jam is seen through the shape cut out in the middle of the cookie. Anyways, I've always wanted to buy these because I think they make such an attractive cookie. So I tried them out for the first time last night and they were such a pain in the bootie to use! I did not use them like the directions explained because that just wasn't working. I won't go into detail what the instructions said but I'm sure some of you have used them and I want to know what your experience was. I ended up using the circle cutter alone and then I took the little shaped insert that cuts out the middle and punched out each middle after I cut out the outside circle. There was no streamlining the procedure with one punch to cut outside and inside. It took so long to cut these out! And it did not even make that many because you had to join 2 cookies together so you only got half the cookies you cut out total! Of course these cookies look so perfect and easy when you see them advertised. Tell me - what is your experience?

I didn't have too much trouble with the cutter and insert that cuts the outside and inside at the same time. You still have to cut another set with the inser removed. 20 hearts and 20 more with the insert.

They are a pain, but they are beautiful. But most beautiful things take time.

I've not had any problem with these cutters. Perhaps dip the cutting edge in flour?

There are so many different styles of cutters available. My set has a plunger release that pushes the cookie out of the cutter. Very easy operation, but time consuming nonetheless.
