........... use vegetable shortening in buttercream icing?im worried because the vegetable shortening is kinda yellow.............

 

I realize this is an old post but wanted to address this.

all vegetable shortenings should not be even 'kinda yellow'.  A good quality shortening- like Crisco brand - should be *white*.  Sounds to me like you have butter flavored shortening.

Do this buttercream have to be kept in the fridge  and how long will it keep?

EDIT: I take it back, I used all butter. I bet if I use 1/2 shortening it will hold up better?
