Ka From Lowes Backordered Until 2008????

Ok, I bought a KA brushed nickel mixer from Lowe's when they had their good deal going. When I first purchased it, they told me that it would be here in two weeks. Two weeks came and went so I called them and they are telling me that it is on backorder until CHRISTMAS 2008!
Could this be true? Has anyone else experienced this?
The man at Lowe's said I could cancel the order and they would refund my money or I could cancel my order and get a different color. Um, no thank you, I want my Brushed Nickel mixer!
What should I do?

I was told december of this year.. I've decided to wait it out. It was such a great deal that I really can't see passing it up... I'm just pretending that the sale isn't until then and I've placed my money in a safe place...
I was told today mine would be backordered for 90 days - 6 months
I have decided to wait it out.

Hmmmm... Sounds like a hot item! (I haven't seen it yet.) I say keep your current order with Lowe's. If you happen to get your hands on one earlier from somewhere else, you can still cancel Lowe's. ... NOW ~~~ I gotta go see what this hype is all about! 
I have graciously given someone that ordered a copper one the opportunity to get theirs sooner...isn't that nice of me?
My (second) Sunbeam has started locking up on me this weekend. I just don't feel like I can take a chance on waiting until the end of the year, which is the ETA my Lowes has finally given me. I changed my order back to my original choice, the light pink one. As a registered mammographer, and having 3 classmates diagnosed with breast cancer (we're only 37!) I should have known better. KA says they will donate $50 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with my purchase.
I just got greedy when I saw the metallic series $500 value for $150, and changed my order to the copper. See, Karma bit me in the hiney! Hopefully I will now get a KA in the next two weeks, although that was what I was told July 21st...
I am not sure if you guys knew this but Kitchen Aid has an Online Outlet store. All items come with warranty.

Try this- Do you have a Sears near you?
Take your receipt, it should have the mixer product code that Kitchen Aid uses printed right on it, plain as day.
See if Sears will match the price. They can order colors, etc there if they don't have it in the store.
AND if they do match, you'll get an extra 10% off, and Sears will print out a rebate right at the register until 9/30 so, you'll get an extra $30 back by mail.
It took me a while at the registers, got managers involved, everyone was shocked - but with that Kitchen Aid product code printed right on the Lowe's receipt, it makes it easy.
The Lowes guy just called me to tell me about the backorder... nice as pie kind of guy.
He said that the message he got from Kitchen Aid is that they are out of materials to build the metallic series - at this time, production is slated for the month of December, therefore we won't actually receive the mixers until early 2008.... I asked about the December 2008 backorder - he thinks it was the way the message was worded... it looks more like it's a January 2008 timeframe...
(he also made a comment about stockholders losing a bit of money- so maybe they are telling you december 2008 to try to get you to cancel or reorder the regular artisian - of which they aren't losing money on)
