Does anyone know if Rich's Bettercream or the equivalent tastes anything like whipped cream to ice a cake with?

Can you put fondant decorations on it (esp. the sides of cake) or will it break down?

Thanks.

I think Rich's is more heavy & sweet like a buttercream but Pastry Pride is more like a whipped cream.....

Rich's Bettercream is like a whipped cream. It is sweetened but has the texture of whipped cream. I personally like it better than buttercream as far as taste but it can be difficult to work with. It needs to be smoothed quickly or it will set up and you'll have a hard time getting a smooth finish. You could put fondant pieces on the top but they may slide off if you put them on the side, I'm not sure. People say Pastry Pride and Bettercream are one in the same just different parts of the country have different brands. Oh and you do need to keep it refrigerated.

Hello, I agree you need to work with it quickly. I used it as a filler in a fondant cake once and it broke down. I do like working with it but is not ment or it just did work for me to use with fonant.

You can put fondant decorations on it, but you shouldn't use it as your base when covering the entire cake with fondant. It works just like whipped cream in that way. I made a cake yesterday that was covered in bettercreme, had fondant accents and 2 photo images. I had no problems at all.

Also a great tip I learned at CC is you can smooth it out a bit with a slightly wet offset spatula!

Rich's is not the same as Pastry Pride. Richs product is much more velvety, and when whipped correcty can produce a quality looking cake. To me pastry pride reminds me of canned whipped cream. It just doesn't look as pretty to me. My choice Richs.
