Hello everyone, I am making a wedding cake for a friend of mine, her weddign is in October of this year. She wants a fishing theme, Please help... she wants some bass fish on the sides of the cake , how or what should I do about this, do I paint or cut out a fish shape out of fondant then paint it? I need some ideas an advice...
Having once attempted (and failed) to cut out dozens of tiny fish for a baby shower cake, I would recommend looking for a fish chocolate mold and use it to either mold chocolate (duh) or you could try it with fondant or gumpaste (easier to paint, etc.)

Thanks that's a great idea, how do you make the chocolate molded fish stick to the cake?
You don't have to make them out of chocolate. You can use fondant. But either way RI should work.

Ok I think I will be experimenting this weekend, lol... What is the best (glue) to use on fondant to make either other fondant peices stick or chocolate peices stick to the fondant?
RI for chocolate. And RI, water or egg white for fondant. I prefer egg white with fondant.
"RI" is Royal Icing. Its made with merigue powder and confectioners sugar. It dries very hard, and its tasty in small doses.
Oh sorry about the acronym....here is a thread on CakeCentral (CC) acronyms: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-2926-acronyms.html
Hope that helps (HTH)
I also use extracts to make fondant adhere to fondant. A little lemon extract does the trick just fine and there is little to no noticeable flavor. Learned that trick from a class I took with Collette Peters (it was more like a book signing/ demonstration).
I don't know about you but you might want to try color flow. You could print a simple fish design from the web and copy it easliy with color flow. Another idea is to have the bride and groom (made of marzipan or fondant) sitting together on the edge of the top cake fishing. You could even use real fishing line to hook the fish below. I don't know if that is what the bride is into when she means fish themed.
Colorflow is like liquid RI that dries hard.
