Hi all...

Just an update for those that were interested...

I went to the GP .. he feels that it is highly unlikely that it will be cancerous. All the information that he has collected (blood tests etc) doesn't directly point that it is cancer related... he won't make a difinitive decision as to what it is so he is sending me to a specialist Surgeon (professor) who only deals with livers.

I'm still pretty scared... he says; quote "it does not have the appearance of a benign tumour"... so basically the GP doesn't know exactly what it is so without guessing he wants more "investigation done"... I would love for someone to say it's nothing, just a big ol' cyst or fibros lump. But I know logically that they can't cuz it would be too risky. The positive is that they aren't going "oooh... no, doesn't look good..." so I'll just take that bit of positive and run with it!

So that's about it for now... when I know more, I'll let you guys know... if nothing else... i'm becoming very educated in the liver!

I'm glad to hear that the doctor doesn't think it's malignant. I hope the specialist will be able to give you some good news, too. Thinking of you. icon_smile.gif

My thoughts and prayers are with you. They are able to do so much now with livers and other organs. My Sister-in-law had to have a liver transplant due to a cirosis of the liver. She was a non-drinker and they are not sure what caused it. Anyway, we found out that they are able to remove part of your liver and it regenerates itself if the crucial part is left. We also learned that a portion of a matching liver can be transplanted and both will regenerate (in the patient and donor). Hopefully everything will be fine. Please keep us informed.

Hi guys... thanks for all the nice thoughts.

The specialist has lifted my spirits a bit... nothing concrete yet, but the odds are in my favour (age etc)... he has sent me for some blood test to check cancer cells/levels (which I will see my GP for the results in 2 days - cuz I'm impatient)... then have to have an MRCP/MRI on the 20th... not looking forward to that... so it'll be 3 weeks before I get the 'all clear'...

The specialist is leaning more towards it being a fibroadenoma... or hopefully... more likely FNH (focal nodular hyperplaysia) or haemangeoma (sp?) both of which are pretty harmles... the adenoma we'll worry about if it ends up being that... but that will be what the MRI will show us - CT scans evidently only show so much.

Anyways... hopefully this will all blow over as being nothing and the stress was for nother too... but from now on, i'm definitely taking better care of myself -- just hope it's not too late!!!

Will let you all know how the bloods go.

thanks for the support -- means alot.

Fi, I'm glad to hear that the specialist eased your worries a bit. MRI's aren't bad ... you just have to lay still for awhile. Even if you have to have an MRI with contrast (they inject dye into your system to ease in differentiating different types of tissue), it's pretty painless. Please keep us updated. Still sending optimistic thoughts and (((((HUGS))))) your way. icon_smile.gif

Hi all... me again...

Have seen my GP for the blood tests that they did for cancer markers... all good news! everything came back normal, nothing elevated. They did a AFP blood test - (alpha-fetoprotein) which basically is what they use when looking for the HCC (liver cancer) and other liver diseases but that came back clear. Now, from my research this doesn't exclude cancer 100% but it greatly reduces the likelihood... so a little more relieved... I still have my moments of worry... but I guess that is to be expected... next stage is waiting for the MRCP/MRI which won't be for another week -- then you have to wait a week for results! aaarrgghh!

Anyways... just thought I'd let you guys know... and thanks for all the positive vibes... is always a handy thing in times like these!!

Until the next installment...

Hello again... this will perhaps be my last instalment to this topic.

I saw the surgeon yesterday -- the things on my liver look fine... Focal Nodular Hyperplasia -- basically liver cells growing randomly rather than uniformly and can be caused by too much estrogen. The cyst on my spleen ended up being a haemangioma -- like a blood clot/blister -- both of these are benign. They can't give me a 100% guarantee that this is what they are so he has suggested I go and get my gallbladder out as I have about 6 very large stones (my account for some health issues I have including backache)... and whilst in there he is going to try and get a biopsy from the liver... he said it'll be tricky as to where they are positioned.

Also, he's not 100% sure that the gallstones are causing the back pains as the larger lesion is pressing on one of my vein blood vessels from the liver.... so we'll have to wait and see on that one.

Anyways... thanks to all who wished/prayed me well... now I have to make a rapid recovery after surgery (11th September) as my friend needs a cake for her daughters birthday that weekend, and then my own son has his birthday the following weekend... and don't laugh but I did factor in what cake orders I had before agreeing to the surgery!! am such a loser!!! ((hangs head in shame))... hehehe

Will be thinking of you and wishing you a very speedy recovery. Nothing wrong with factoring in cake orders before agreeing to surgery. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif It will give you an incentive to recover faster.
