I am making my daughter's b-day cake....her party is on the 18th of this month.....I am wanting to put little ladybugs molded out of rice krispy treats and covered in fondant around the cake....my question is: How far in advance can I make the ladybugs & they not ruin? I will be applying a layer of buttercream to the rice krispy treat before covering in fondant...and I was unsure of how long the buttercream would stay good & not "spoil", as I know that you aren't suppose to put fondant in the fridge. Thanks!

The fondant I make is fine in the frig. I'd recommend making the fondant now and doing a test run with it.

you can put fondant in the fridge you just have to take it out early enoughtolet itget to the right temperature so that the condensation will evaporate away.

You can also make a bc with hi-ratio shortening and no butter, this does not have to be refrigerated.

Rice Krispies treats start to lose their freshness after about 2 days. The butter cream icing will stay fresh way longer than that.

I've been doing a lot of rk molding and have been putting the fondant right onto the rk with no buttercream. Don't know if that would help them stay fresher longer.

Thanks so much ladies!!! I had posted at another forum on another site & never got a response. Y'all are fantastic! I am using MMF...I was told that it isn't allowed to go in fridge...was I misinformed?

I have never had problems with MMF in the fridge. I just LOOSELY cover it so air can get in and around it. Then take it out of the fridge, remove all coverings and let any persperation completely dry before I might touch it.
