Is there anyone out there running a business with this condition? It affects my decision to open a bakery or not.

Fibromyalgia is chronic wide spread pain effecting the muscles and joints. I also have the chronic fatigue.

I have a cousin in her 20's with this condition. Also my grandma on the same side who is 90. What I've heard from them is that it is a horrible, much unknown condition. But, I know that with diet & exercise that it can be somewhat controlled. Not much help, but I gave you a bump. Good luck!

I'd like to highly recommend to ALL of you -- even those with CFS or FM to purchase Z-Coil brand shoes. I recommend NOT to get them off E-Bay, but to go to a reputable dealer who will take the time to actually fit them to your feet.

I am a chronic pain patient with extensive nerve damage in both feet. My pain is wicked & I use a w.chair. In addition to a neurostimulator similar to the one Actor Jerry Lewis has, I started wearing these Z-Coils last August and have never turned back!!

PM me if you wish more info.

I don't have fibro, but I do work with patients that do one a daily basis. I suggest that if there is an aquatic therapy or aquatic wellness center in you area that you try it out. The warm water helps most of our patients beyond their expectations.

Sorry, I know it's not cake related, but I really think that it will help you build up your endurance so that you can have the business of your dreams.

I second the Z-Coil shoe idea. My mom has fybromyalgia and wears the shoes all the time. There the only things that keeps her going. I clean houses as a second job and bought a pair for myself and you can't believe the difference!!!! Find a dealer and give them a try! thumbs_up.gif

I do have FM. Really mine is pretty minor to what it used to be. Before I was in a wheel chair because I couldn't even walk 15 feet without falling over with pain.

I do not have a store front, I rent kitchen space from a local restaurant. All of my consutlations and taste tests are by appointment only. I will warn you that if you decide to open a business you may become more ill. You have to make sure not to over do it. Learn to say "I'm sorry I'm booked" right away, otherwise you will get more ill.

I have not learned that yet and after my work, I need three days to recoop. I have a 2 1/2 year old and only two days to recoop. I can tell I am getting more ill, so, make sure you have the down time that you need, otherwise you aren't going to be able to maintain the pace that may come your way.

I wish you luck in what you decide. Personally I am very happy that I opened up a business. I can now say that I followed my dream. If down the road I become so ill I won't be able to do it, at least I can say I tried.

As for now it is my first full year and I am learning to say I am already booked for 2008 and the end of the year.

Sorry so long, just wanted to give my experience.

icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Yes, indeed! However, after wearing Nikes (or top-of-the-line athletic shoes) for 10 years(!) straight with my "Denim to Diamonds" clothes--including skirts, dresses, business suits--and STILL having terrible pain, these shoes have made all the difference in the world with ability to stand, walk, kneel, and movement. icon_razz.gificon_biggrin.gif

These shoes last for years and years and years. Oh, yeah, you can get the heel "enclosed" if you wish, too.

....well, okay perhaps you might say "fake diamonds" since all my cash goes to making CAKES!!!!! icon_cool.gif

This is my life! icon_sad.gif

I am glad you opened your business!!! Your cakes are terrific!!! Nice work!! icon_biggrin.gif I am glad you are following your dream!! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Before my damaged nerves, I used to be the Aerobics Queen -- so now I pour all my energy into the kitchen!! But I haven't taken pix of them all.... Last year for October fund-raiser at the grade school, I made 6 big, luscious fun fun fun cakes for the kids & their cake walk. Do you think I grabbed any snapshots.... Nooooooo... oh well!! It was all about the kids! Those cakes were the hit of the whole carnival!

This year, I plan to do it again! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Your right, those are some ugly shoes! But I think I going to give them a try. My feet burn and hurt ALL the time.

I checked some prices and they run about $200 a pair.

Thank you all for responding. I WILL give the shoes a try, it can't hurt. I realize that there is a lot for me to think about but I feel less fearful of the idea.

Thank you so much for everything.

Okay Ladies -- protect those little piggies & try the Z's.

Time to break open the VISA and go for it!

The dealer I use has a 14-day $$$ back guarantee, so perhaps someone around you have the same policy!

Good luck! icon_biggrin.gif

Hey Yall, I might have to retract my story of where I said i dont have fibromyalgia. I have went to a very well known hospital in the state and the dr has mentioned fibromyalgia. He said that there is a high possibility that I do have fibro and has sent me to a rhumatologist. So far this year I have missed over 120 days at work and still counting. I am so trying to work but I wake up hurting and hurt all day. I was trying to do a cake for my sister a few min ago and all of a sudden while smoothing the cake my arm started shaking. I had to stop. I go to the rhumatologist on the 29th of oct so I guess ill find out then if i have it.

I have FM aka Chronic Fatigue. The main things to keep in mind when opening a business and survivng with the cosnidtions:

1. Pace yourself. Do not take on more than you can handle.
2. Reduce stress. It will make you in more pain.
3. HOT TUB!!! Wonderful when you hurt
4. Make sure you allow yourself downtime. You need it.
5. Work with your Rhuemotologist for optimal relief.
6. Reduce Caffine. It triggers flares.

You can have a business and live with FM. It's all abut pacing yourself and scheduling your activities while taking care of you.

Good Luck
