I got suckered into doing this and have not attempted it yet. Any tips? I'm afraid it will break in half.

It's not really hard. You can do it very easily. I use my small cake leveler to cut the cake in half, and then use a flat baking sheet to slide under the top piece to remove it. I then put the filling on the bottom layer and carefully slide the top layer of of the baking sheet, back on top of the filling. HTH.

OMG Rezzy! Thank you sooooooo much!!!! I came in here to say don't attempt it because I did and it broke all over the floor, table, chairs, etc lol.

But normally since I don't have that great big nice nifty leveler I just bake two thin layers seperately that way I don't have to actually lift off and replace and risk it breaking lol.

If you are not that confident with torting such a large cake, wrap it and freeze it slightly so it's not as soft when you cut into it. This way it will be a bit more stable for you to move. Slip the top part on a cake board or a rimless cookie sheet.

what's nice is you can line it up nice and evenly. The only thing different that I do is make an icing dam.
