I found a new Clay Extruder that works great and is very easy on the hands! I was in the clay section at Michael's looking for a diamond shaped cutter and noticed a new extruder by Makin. It comes with 20 disc designs and is made from aluminum. It looks like a mag lite. To extrude you simply turn the T-handle and out comes the fondant! I used it on the Roth baby shower cake in my gallery. It works much better than any of the other 4 or 5 that I have!

The green plastic one I have is too hard to use with fondant! The fondant has to practically be liquid to go through it!

I'll have to check this one out. About how much is it?

I bought that model a couple of weeks ago also...haven't used it yet but glad to hear that it is much better....as I saw the inexpensive plastic one later on and wondered if I'd spent too much!!!

I have the green plastic one and have used it a bunch of times. I knead a little Crisco into my fondant and it comes out of the gun just fine. I did buy the new metal one when there was that 50% off coupon at Michael's but it's still in the package. I wanted it for the smaller extruder discs than the green one has, even though it looks like the shapes are the same. Also, the fondant can go in either end, and changing discs without emptying the gun is possible with the metal one but not the plastic one. If money is REALLY tight, buy the green one but if you can spare another few bucks, I think the metal one is really nice.

I just went Googling and found this place:

www.clayalley.com. They have this Makins clay extruder w/20 discs for $19.50 (is this cheaper than Michael's?) Tthey also have two different sets of extra discs for $9.50 each and the best part yet...a crank handle kit to make it easier on hands and wrists, for $7.50. Then there is a cake decorating tip adapter so you can just put your cake tips on and use them, for $5.00.

I'm was mostly interested in price comparisons, the ease of ordering online works best for me, so just wanted to ask if you think these prices are in line with other places. Janice

I just got one of those last week and used it on a wedding cake. It worked wonders with both fondant and MMF. It's also so easy to clean. You just take apart, let it sit in warm soapy water for a few minutes and just let dry. no scrubbing and no rusting.

This one was $30 without a 40% off coupon. You could also buy an extra set of disks but it came with 20 which was a nice selection.
