I know they sell cookie sticks, but I have a TON of wooden BBQ skewers and was wondering if I can use those as cookie sticks for a cookie bouquet. I think they might be too thin, but thought I'd ask anyways.

Are you talking about the wooden shish-ka-bob skewers. I bought some that had 100 in a package????
I used to buy dowel rods from the hardware store and then read from someone on this site that recommended using the skewers. I now use them (even for the heavy cookies) and will probably never use anything else again. They are wonderful, inexpensive, just the right length, and handy......very handy!!!!
Hope this helps

AWESOME!
I bought a bunch, like 300, when I read that someone used them in their cakes instead of dowels. Everyone thought that was a horrible idea though, so now I am stuck with all these skewers.
I'm so glad I can finally use them!!

Just a little tip - soak the skewers in water overnight and when you need to use them, just towel dry them. This helps to stop them burning and becoming dry and brittle. Works when your are making shish-ka-bobs too!

Do you have to use the sticks in the cookies as they bake or can you shove them in icon_lol.gif when they are just out the oven? The reason I ask is because I came across pastel colored plastic chop sticks and thought they might make interesting cookie sticks/

This is probably a moronic questions - I am not a cookie person but want to learn. Also, I skinny wooden dowel at the Home Depot for custom sized sticks and they were prettcy cheap. It would be overkill to use the electric miter saw to cut them icon_surprised.gif but I sure do love that saw!

Yes, I agree any tips would be greatly appreciated. Like where do you get these skewers and how long are they typically? Also how do you get them into the cookie? How thick do you roll your cookie dough? HELP! I am a newbie too, but heavily addicted.
