Why do people think it takes no time to bake, cool and decorate a cake?
Tuesday my husband came home with a request, the guys at work wanted a cake for someone leaving to start his own buisness and today is his last day. They gave him money for all the materials needed Wednesday and he picked everything up on his way home. Last night one of the guys stopped at our house to tell us what we'd need for painting the kitchen and he looked at my husband and asked if he had picked the stuff for the cake up yet. icon_eek.gificon_confused.gif My husband knows better of course and he told the guy that there wouldn't be a cake if he hadn't and if he'd brought it home the day before they want the cake he'd get killed. Not quite true, if he'd brought it home the night before I simply would have told him where the mixer was. icon_twisted.gif

The really sad thing about this one is that this guy's wife has made at least one wedding cake. I don't know how good she is, she had to borrow the stuff from the grocery store she worked at, but he's seen her do this kind of stuff.

Yea - it's not just men!

I'm making a baby shower cake for tomorrow and my MIL said "you can make those photo cookies for favors too". Mind you that she works part time when she feels like it and is buying a meat platter and salads for the shower so she doesn't have to be bothered and I work full time - have a 10 yr old with homework and soccer 3 nights a week - a husband, home, dogs, cats, horse (that I haven't seen in 3 weeks!) and have been very busy with paying customers' cakes! She e-mailed that someone offered to help yesterday and I said - "Great! Have them make the favors!" She said "I wondered how you were going to do it all!" It just amazes me sometimes! sorry - didn't mean to ramble on. . .

I have a friend who can bake and decorate a cake in three to four hours. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself. The cakes are pretty, too, not masterpieces but nice.

That would be a nightmare for me: saying at 9:00 a.m. "Gotta go; have to bring a cake to my kid's class at noon!" But she pulls it off. I allow myself THREE DAYS (not hours!) for baking and decorating a cake, but I thought it was because I make only a couple of cakes a year!

Cheers, from
