Is Satin Ice made out of Bubble Gum? No amount of crisco or powdered sugar will prevent it from sticking to my mat. I'm not talking a minor stick either. I'm talking heavy duty scraping to get it off. I am seriously disgusted right now. 5 attempts to put it on my cake and it has stuck and torn each time. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
* note it is very warm and humid out right now. (85ish) Maybe that is the problem.
Yep its the humidity ! had the same problem last night , if you have corn starch try that also try refridgerating it for a while that tends to tighten it up a little you can also lay out a sheet pan with ice on the counter to cool it down the dry is off an try try again, Were are you from
Also it helps not to knead it too much...just give it a few kneads until its in a ball but not too soft.
I find Satin Ice is incredibly soft during warm weather. FondX is what I use and its a little better but still soft...I would say Pettinice is the firmest fondant that I have worked with. I don't like it because I hate kneading for a long time and in winter that's what you have to do with Pettinice, but it might be better for hot weather.
I just used Satin Ice for the first time the other day and the combo of cornstarch and a wilton Roll&Cut mat did the trick nicely.
I'm a total newbie at this stuff, but the SI handled beautifully compared to my own MMF, which would stick to everything in its path unless all liberally Criscoed down.
It has to be the humidity - that's the one and only time I had a problem with SI - my hubby had the front window torn out of the house so we turned the air off - I promptly retreated to the back room and cranked up the AC so at least that little room was cool and my problems were solved! SI is the easiest of any of the better tasting fondan't i've tried. Wilton is the easiest to handle but we all know how that tastes!

I also find that Satin Ice is very soft and sticky, especially if you add coloring, so I add a lot of powdered sugar. I roll my fondant onto a cut up thin plastic tablecloth, beats a cutting board. The kind you get for about $2 at the party supply stores. My fondant never seems to stick to those. Plus if you need to roll out a huge chunk of fondant for a larger cake, you can just cut out a bigger square from the table cloth and roll it out on your dining room table
I'm sure it's probably too late for this advice, but try it out next time.
