In the wilton yearbook is a recipe for making fondant. Has anyone ever made this one. What kind of geltin are they talking about and do you get it from the grocery store. Does this fondant turn out like the kind you buy. I am wanting to try this recipe cause I am having a hard time with the mmf it tears so much easier than wilton fondant. It has to be something I am doing. Any extra tips would be great. Thanks for help. thumbs_up.gif

The recipe calls for powdered gelatin (knox in the little packets). It is easy to make and seems to work fine.

There is a similar recipe on foodtv.com called rolling fondant by Jacues Torres. I have really good luck with this one.

The Wilton book recipe is the one I tried at first. It worked, but I have played with it quite a bit and I like to use milk instead of water, butter instead of shortening, and I can add colors and flavors of my choosing.

As an extra tip, powdered gelatin and glycerin can be found at health food stores in larger quantities at much better prices. The glycerin is usually found near the lotions for people to make their own. Just make sure you get vegetable glycerin. The gelatin is found in the section for improving fingernails. It's all the same stuff as you can get in the grocery or cake supply store, just cheaper.

With using the recipe in the yearbook can you color the fondant. Can you buy glycerin at a grocery store, where in the store can you find it. Thanks

I tried it when I first started making fondant. The Knox powdered packaged in the grocery store is what you use. The glycerin I have only seen and bought at a craft store (Michaels). You can add color to your fondant after you remove it from the heat when you add the glycerin. You can also add after you make the fondant. Just knead in.

Tastes like chewy sugar. You can add flavoring, but it really isn't bad at all.

Does the wilton recipe for fondant turn out with that elastic stretchy feeling. I have tried so many other fondant recipes and the all turn out so sticky. icon_cry.gif I hope the wilton recipe works for me. thumbs_up.gif
