I am prepared to deliver a qoute for a 200 cupcake wedding order,
i have prepared two qoutes
one which is 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 yellow cupcakes w/ bc frosting and chocolate shavings on top- $1.50 ea

the second is 1/3 yellow with bc filling and frosting and choc curls
1/3 chocolate w/chocolate fill and bc top with cjocolate curlsand 1/3 yellow w/strawberry fill and bc frost and choc curls for decoration

these I figured @ $2.00 ea

order also calls for a 6 or 8 " cutting tier.

i am feeling ok but then hubby and a friend say " i would never pay 2.oo for a cupcake"

welll what do you think??

for a regular basic wedding cake i would charge 2.00 per

I think those sound like very low prices. At least in CA. Tell your husband if he goes to a nice bakery here he would pay $5.50-$6.50 per cupcake.

Im not exactly sure what to charge for cupcakes,, but that pricing sounds about right to me...I charge more for my wedding cakes per slice. But they require much more detail in decorating than a cupcake with curls will require. But cupcakes are more of a PITA to bake so anyway I think you are right on the money but I am interested to see what others offer for their opinion..

I charge the same for cupcakes at a wedding that I do for cake, $2.50 per serving. Never had a bride complain about the cost.

Sounds good to me... you can't think of it as a cupcake, they are using it as a wedding cake.

I think they are men and just really do not realize the work involved. charge the two dollars its cheaper than any other. I mean walmart charges 1.30 for their mess home made and decorated is way worth it

Well I am always shocked at what people claim to charge for things on here. I wish I could get their prices for my Work- I would have it made!. I do think $2.00 is high for a cupcake but that is just my opinion.
Remember opinions are like ears- everyone has them!!! hahaha good luck

Does that price include the stand/decorations of it or will that be extra. If included I think you could charge $2 for a filled cupcake. I would never pay $2 per cupcake for a simple dozen in a tray, but wedding cupcakes are different because of the elaborate display required.

No you are not out of line for these prices. I think you should charge more. These are for a wedding, too. Wedding servings usually cost more, and you figure, each cupcake is one serving. You could easily charge $4 and up per cupcake. In this case, don't listen to hubby or your friend!

I think it sounds reasonable. Affterall, the cupcakes are filled and frosted. That takes time. Plus, it really is no different than if you made a wedding cake for them. It just sort of "pre-sliced" for the guest.

$2.00 per includes decoration and filling. If they are plain janes then they are $1.25 (no filling and simple b/c twist on top).

Do not go lower. My husband told me I couldn't sell my Easter cookies for $3.00 each. Like yours, he took the wind out of my sails but I stuck with my price and sold 150 of them. MEN HAVE NO CLUE!

One thing you (and hubby and hubbys friend) need to keep in mind is that cupcakes are more work then a big cake are... you have all these little buggers you need to fill and ice seperatly and then package a certain way so they don't get messed up and so on... Cupcakes are alot more work then just a regular cake and you should charge accordingly.

I would charge the same price per serving as I would if it were for a large cake. I would also charge a little extra for a "handling" fee because they are so much more time consuming and delicate then a larger cake... and things could happen in transit that wouldn't happen to a larger cake. I'd charge extra for special packaging needed too....

thanks everyone- they are making the stand but I will be delivering and doing the set up-

my thinking was ,that it is an individual serving and as big as a wedding cake serving and as someone said a PITA for sure - i guess i will have to go with it and see what happens

so as totals including the cake and cupcakes it was
$322 or $422 with the filled for what amounts two servings for 212

I had 100 cupcakes for my own wedding 3 years ago and if I remember correctly, I was charged either $2.50 or $3.00 per cupcake and I had a beautiful "arrangement" of flowers on each cupcake. I was waaaayyyy undercharged. But I'm not complaining. icon_wink.gif

so I think you're in the ballpark. IMO.

IF they don't pay 2.00 then they won't be getting the chocolate filling, and chocolate curls.

Man filling cupcakes is time consuming... Time wise I think it takes longer than an average slice of cake. You can only bake 12 or 24 cupcakes at a time where with a cake you could bake up to 80servings at a time (well maybe more but it is a high number)

Tell your hubby and friend they can bake the cupcakes for free then and you'll just have the customer pay 1.50 each for the supplies. (ok maybe exhaturated but you get the point)

I charge $2.50 for a filled wedding cupcake with a simple ruffle of bc on top. If they want a fondant cutout of something on top, then it $2.75 each.

When we got married 19 years ago (and wedding cakes were in the $300 range) hubby thought you could get one for 30-40 bucks.

Tell him these cupcakes are not being delivered in a plastic wrapper with the word "Hostess" written on it.

Men .... for the most part ..... are idiots.

I had a cupcake wedding order last october. They needed 200. I charged $2 each and it was way too low. I didn't think 200 was that many but all of my kitchen surfaces were covered in cupcakes.

Just so they know (those men who won't pay $2.00 for a cupcake but will pay over $5. for a beer...) Hostess cupcakes are about .75 cents a piece now, at least I think I saw $1.49 tagged on packages of them when I was grabbing a cup of coffee at a Casey's the other day.

Let them eat Hostess!!

Yesterday I was at the Galleria Mall in Dallas. The Cookie Co. had a poster ad out about cupcakes for $1.99 each. It was a plain cupcake w/frosting on top and M&Ms sprinkled on them. How hard is it to squirt frosting on top & dump M&Ms on it? You're doing WAY more work than that! I don't think $2.00/each is enough, if you ask me.

Brides think cupcakes are cheaper and easier. I had one try to order some from me for a wedding next year. I told her I could do whatever she wanted, but warned her that cupcakes are more expensive than a regular cake. It's more time consuming, more icing and more of a pain in the butt. She changed her mind quickly icon_smile.gif
