Need Some Ideas To Give "lift" To This Idea.

I'm making 2 dozen Wizard of Oz themed cupcakes. All will be iced to look like grass, 8 will have red slippers on them, 8 will have rainbows on them (standing up and stuck into the icing), and 8 are supposed to have yellow brick roads down the center. Now that I've made the rainbows and shoes I realize that the yellow brick road ones are going to look "flat" comparatively.

Any ideas how to give these some visual "lift" or interest?

Thanks,
Kathi

how's this...

shape of road on left so it looks to vanishing into the distance.

dotted line is the support underneath (see right side of sketch)

support is just a triangle of chocolate or gumpaste stuck to the bottom and then onto the cupcake.

Okay, this is for 2-5 year olds, so I was planning on making this one all buttercream, so do you think this modification might work?

Ice the cupcakes in green, making it smooth (not grass tip) and shape icing into a "hill" to take the place of your support piece. Then ice a road looking like you described.

I finished! I'm actually really happy with how something turned out. They look better than I imagined they would. Here's a link to them:

Thanks again for the help,

Thanks!

I pushed them down into the top of the cupcake slightly, which held them until the frosting crusted. When the frosting crusted they were very stable. No mishaps in delivery this morning.

These look great. What kind of mold did you use for the ruby slippers?
